  • To go back to the OP's situation; there is no way under law this garage can force this charge through!

yes lets get back to the problem in hand.

so jock, how do you suggest the op deals with this problem, they want thier car back, but the garage have spent money on new parts so do they remove the new parts and return the car to the op? then the op has to go and get the work done somewhere else anyway.

and what if the old parts are un useable?

Well I had another look at this thread tonight and was much amused by the banter.

I was particularly interested in the knowledge that "Clueless" has about the OP Milliemonster - mainly that the OP is a young female. How does he know that? I wondered.

So I did a bit of a search and while not searching long enough to prove or disprove the 'young female' assertion I did however find this in an old post from Milliemonster the OP

"Hmmm, we are a professional couple have a household income of £75k pa and we shop at Lidl, much prefer to have our earnings spent on other things than overpriced crap from some of the mainstream supermarkets, never been on benefits in my life and am definitely not a chav.

Get off your high horse and stop stereotyping people"

So why is someone with that income moaning about a slightly increased garage bill? And why are they buying sheds instead of paying out for a proper car that won't let them down?

AND the million dollar question... why does Clueless care so much?

    Gotta be more to it.

So.... in short - Cluelessjock is sniffing around some young skirt and this young skirt that should have money coming out of her ears is running around in some old wreck then complaining about a repair bill for an MOT ?

    !!!!ing hilarious :rotfl:

    Morning Children,

I was giving an example of how it works around here. You are just be very aggressive in your approach to a small problem.

Do you assume I know where here is? Do you assume the OP should apply the same rules? Does the OP also live in a similar community? Do you assume I don't have any experience of such communities?

It appears that Hintza is from some recently found tribe in some isolated corner of Scotland and is taking time to get up to speed with how business works, there is hope for him though. Maybe they still eat the young there? Care to comment Hintza?

Unfortunately, however it seems the rest of you are going to remain in the 'I know best' stage of your development.

    I shall try again.

yes lets get back to the problem in hand.

and what if the old parts are un useable?

Now if I was in the position I would ask for a full breakdown of money spent and the additional work carried out that had not been authorised. If it was not an attempt to rip me off I would assess the value of the work done and negotiate a settlement. That is how business works.

    Points to consider:

It is not in the interest of the garage to spend the time and money taking parts off the car again. They really don't want to do that.
By being so far out on the estimate they have failed in their duty.
I agree that things can go wrong very quickly on old cars, however an experienced garage should know this and account for it in every estimate. Indeed I would suggest that is exactly what they did when they said between £300 & £400. That guys is a whopping 33% tolerance for things going wrong. I would have to wonder about the ability to do the job if they can't get the estimate for the job closer than 140%.
See post on previous page by superclan. He explains it very well if you would only wind your neck in and listen.
fortunatly for me i do most of my own work,so i know only too well how things can go from good to bad in an instant, and then find myself needing more new parts. !!!!!! happens.

This comment demonstrates very well that a) you have a car of an age that that things go bad quickly and often, and; b) that you have to fix it yourself. May I suggest that if you would listen and learn you may not be parted from your money so easily (as I am sure your 'just pay up' attitude applies to other goods and services) and that that extra money may help you buy a more modern car, or allow you to put it into the garage. The time saved could be used to go to college and study English or business studies to further enhance your job prospects.

As thick as I may be, eschaton I wouldn't swap places with you, despite all your perceived wisdom, have a look around at your life and you will see why.:p

Interesting display of your very limited intellect there chaps, in posting such comments about the OP who has not posted since the 1st post and is therefore not defending herself. It's not very clever, but I hope it makes you overflow with pride.:T

You are choosing to ignore good advice, from which you could benefit, and instead you are happily displaying for the world to see, on a public forum, that you are all prepared to just give money away. It's embarrassing for you.:o

Now just remind me, what's the name of this website?:money:

Er... we arent the ones with the problem?

My battery went dead yesterday and my garage charged it for free ;)

My girlfriends heat shield was loose earlier last month and they removed it free of charge also.

Just goes to show the advantages of finding a garage you can trust. Its all about give and take :money:

but what if the garage don't want to negotiate? thats the price pay up or f off. many garages will take this attitude. and will remove the part to prove a point.

my car isn't that old, its a 6 year old focus ive had from day one and done most of the maintenance on it myself, due to my job being in a similar field and having been time served as a heavy vehicle mechanic i would say it would be very moneysaving to do my own maintenance.
ive also owned older cars when i was younger that i spent time repairing, due to lack of funds.

also due to the nature of my job i deal with situations that go worng daily, working on older machines that have seen better days, but the customer won't part with the cash to buy newer stuff or even genuine new parts.

i don't need a more modern car, a 6 year old focus with 65k miles on it is modern enough for me.
as for work prospect, thanks for the concern jock but really theres no need,no need at all.

I guess your negotiation skills need brushing up if this is your experience?

interesting, started off as a mechanic myself, didn't take long to work out it wouldn't make me rich

Been there too, can't say I miss it.

Interesting comment, I didn't know you knew me well enough to know whether I have a successful life, or not.

Confident enough to say I would be worse off swapping with your good self.:j
