Good time to buy a Toyota?
Comments

The problem is that they have know but denied faults. Toyota have actually known about the "sticking" accelerator pedal since 2008 but hoped the problem would just go away (Toyota's PR man admitted this on working lunch last week)
The accelerator problem stems from the fact that they started having parts made in China to save money.
Japanese cars aren't really better or worse, they just never admit to a problem in public. This has been forced on them by the states. There are other recalls over there that don't happen here. The cars are good, because they keep saying they are.
The supply chain has been similar for most car companies for years. A lot of Japanese supply is from china.0 -

Ford and GM almost on the point of bankruptcy, Toyota gets a bad huge publicity, no mention of the massive recent Ford recall in the states?
Call me a cynic if you like, but I reckon this has been mainly " stage managed ".

The company relies on Toyota for 3 percent of its annual sales, supplies similar parts for Honda Motor Co., Nissan Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp.
I am not not anti ford ( they make very good cars )or any other manufacturer but things just do not seem right with the amount of publicity Toyota have attracted its as if no other manufacturer has had recall problems in the past .0 -
It's Toyota that have stage managed it. Badly.
Other companies bite the bullet, do the recall, then get the slating for an unreliable car.
Toyota have had the usual policy of deny it since 2008, but now have been forced into a recall by worldwide publicity, not had the publicity for doing the recall.0 -

They weigh up the likliehood of a fault occurring and the likely cost in legal action against the cost of replacing the part on cars around the world. Toyota are not alone in doing this. Every car company does this.
I actually feel a little bit sorry for Toyota. They are hardly the first manufacturer to issue a recall of cars. In fact they are not even the first manufacturer to recall cars for sticking accelerators. For some reason, they just seem to have received the blunt end of the media's attentions where others have not. Fiat recalled some models in 2009 because the "accelerator may stick". In 2008 various Volvo models had a similar recall, in 2006 it was Citroen and Land Rover Discovery's were recalled in 2004.0 -

Well I would still buy a Toyota in preference to a Ford or Vauxhall any day of the week.
Strange that our media is now reporting Toyota recalls that are USA specific ( Camry model ), no mention of the massive US specific Ford recall that I linked above.:)0 -
Another one the media missed.

This time GM, that is still only in business due to US Government intervention.:)0 -
What's your point, Toyota are news, as they have mismanaged it. No-one else is news at the moment.
There's two Honda's on your website you didn't point out, and haven't made the news either

so no-ones just picking on Japanese here.
And from the articles
"The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has found that sudden acceleration events in Toyota vehicles have led to 19 deaths in the past decade, nearly twice the number of deaths associated with similar events in cars manufactured by all other automakers combined, the committee said."
Past decade here, doesn't suggest a quick response.0 -

But......I do not remember any other car maker getting this kind of bad publicity about their numerous recalls.
I just think that there is more behind this than meets the eye, the US Government bailed out the big American car makers, it is in their interest to play this up.:):)0 -
I do, we've just got used to them.
Peugeot, cr*p right?
made in the same Czech factory as Toyota, same problem, same car, but not even worth mentioning.
