  • Just read the beach street bakery by Jenny colgan and loved it.

I see her books mentioned but have never read any so far:o. Might order one from the mobile library. What sort of style does she use, or rather, is her style anything like anyone else who I might know please?
  • Hi there, may I please join? I am a real book-o-holic, and have a list of books that I should read before buying anymore :o

Nice easy chatty style read with lots of baking mentioned then the recipies are added at the back of the book.
Likeable characters, who's lives have ups and downs this one had a nice happy ending, if you read trisha Ashley at all I think you'll enjoy Jenny colgan.
This one was based in Cornwall with lots of references to the area. Lovely descriptions of the scenery makes you want to take up baking and visit Cornwall while you are reading;)

Welcome chicabonita, what sort of books do you read?
I'm working my way slowly through a huge stash of various types and styles of books.

    Thanks for the welcome :)
I read a mixture of sci-fi, fantasy, thrillers, horror, and historical fiction. I try to read a few classics a year, although I don't tend to enjoy them as much as contemporary books. Sometimes I read light chic lit if I'm in the mood, especially ones set in the UK.

I finished Farenheit 451 last night by Ray Bradbury, and am now reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. I'm not always in the mood for Gillian Flynn - I enjoyed Gone Girl, but I find her style jarring some places, I have to be in the mood for it. She's very dark as well, not always what you want to read!

Just started Sidney Sheldon's Windmill of the gods. I like his style, should be a quick one to finish and pass on.

I enjoyed gone girl as well chicabonita. I like historical fiction and read quite a bit of Philippa Gregory.

Undecided what I'm reading next, I think there is too much choice

    Thanks very much mrs-m:T

Not sure it's my sort of 'thing' though, I'm a rubbish baker and the TV baking programmes really turn me off:o. I might give Jenny Colgan a try though, if I borrow it from the library there's nothing lost if I don't care for it much.

Ashamed to admit I've never tried Trisha Ashley either:o.

I've discovered Diane Chamberlain and Liane Moriarty though, I think through people on this thread, and I'm eternally grateful for that:T.

I get confused which thread I get my recommendations from so it may not have been recommended on here but I've just started my first Fred Vargas book and I'm absolutely loving it:j.

  • I finished Dark Places by Gillian Flynn - so so good, really enjoyed it. I rated it 4 our of 5 stars on Goodreads.

Not sure what I'll be reading next, but I'm thinking War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, I've had it on my kindle for a while and it's a nice short one to round off the month!

It was probably you who recommended her then, Happygreen, either here or on the Bookworm thread (if you drop in there too). I must admit I'd never heard of her before. What a find!!!!

If so, a big 'thank you':T
