Still one of my favourite fantasy series. What did you think of the Brandon Sanderson ending?
I liked it, that last battle was epic! I can't say I really noticed a difference in the writing between the two authors, so that makes it a job well done by Sanderson. Maybe the second time through I might spot a few things, though I've not read any of his other work to compare it with (I will do eventually, but not yet since I'll break the rules of this thread! :rotfl: ).Debt tracker ~ June 2015: £9,577.83 ~ January 2016: £7,913.22 ~ 17.38% debt paid!
2016 debt target ~ clear the loan ~ start: £3,082.04 ~ January 2016: £2,927.15

Some friends have gone on holiday and asked me to pop in a couple of times a day to feed and play with their elderly cat who is miserable in catteries and practically wastes away as he refuses to eat for the whole time they're away:eek:. He's fine at home as he has full access to everywhere and plenty of attention from me and anyone else who calls in.
They have hundreds of books on their shelves and have told me to borrow anything I fancy:j. I see there are several of Margaret Atwood's there. have never read any of hers so could anyone recommend which might be a good one to start with please? Am not going to get through more than a couple as there are so many other inviting authors there but I thought I could remedy not having ever read a Margaret Atwood first.0 -
Ohhhh can I join in?
I'm currently very nearly finished The 2nd instalment of A game of Thrones, and my 'to read list is the 3rd book, The Firm by John Grisham, and Cocaine Wars' I must not acquire any more books before these are read!
Re: Margret Atwood - I read 'A Handmaids Tale' for A-Levels, I am not a fan of Dystopia Novels so didn't enjoy it, it was okay.....0 -

I'm trying to think which of Brandon Sanderson's books I've read. Um, The Mistborn Trilogy, Elantris and Warbreaker. Ooh, and Steelheart (which was the first in a new series.) I'll probably make a buying exception for the second one, if I can't borrow it. I like Sanderson's pace (certainly something Robert Jordan lacked a little in the middle of WoT) so I really enjoyed the last couple of books in the series. Without spoilers: Egwene. Tower. Epic.
Maybe try a few of his books from the library?0 -

I don't like them either, that's why I haven't read any of her books so far:o. Has she written anything that isn't dystopian?
I have to say I don't know, I was so underwhelmed by the one I did read I haven't even looked at any others!0 -

I did read a book with short stories and they were quite good. I'll check in my library history and get back to you on the title .First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
Finished a Clash of Kings today. Will leave it at the book swap for its next owner.
Next will be The Firm By John Grisham I think.0 -
Have decided to give the Margaret Atwood's a miss for now as there are so many more enticing authors on my friends' shelves. I'm in reading heaven:j
Have just finished Barbara Vine's The Child's Child which I really enjoyed. There are several of her others there too but I've already read them:( as I'm a fan of hers whether she was writing as Barbara Vine or Ruth Rendell.
Am tempted by Jeffrey Archer's Be Careful What You Wish For but as it's volume 4 of the Clifton Chronicles and I haven't read the first 3 I'm wondering if I should seek them out to read first. No sign of them on my friends' shelves unfortunately. If anyone has already read it, can it be read as a standalone without losing too much or would it be best reading the others first?
In the meantime I've started a book of short stories by Alice Munro. Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage. Most of my friends' books are hardbacks which I love as they're a luxury for me as most of my own are paperbacks.0
