I would read Hitchhikers not to be cool though it is cool but because it is a bloody good book regardless of your particular [spiritual] outlook. Reading stuff cos it's cool strikes me as not a very healthy way to be but needs must and must needs, do what is right for you and makes you be *yourself*.
My List above is me being *myself* it is outright honesty, cheek, bravado. I could add some academic texts if you like that would to put it mildly provide blood boiling enlightenment.. but, shall I, ok someday! (OK to you lot out there lurking yes it DOES look mighty extravagant, !!!!less and most un MSE).#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

*We all need light non brain taxing books and to be entertained because theoretically travelling down the roads of Literary Fiction/Fiction it can be quite depressing*
Alexander McCall Smith 'The Secret Womans Detective Agency' meets that requirement. All other suggestions welcome as well!#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Didn't mean cool in that sense - I meant the actual physical book looked good - I am often sucked in by a good or interesting cover! Glad to hear it's good though - I liked the film though I do realise that often films do not totally repreasent the books they are based on!No more buying books Books in 2016 = 20.
Target for 2018 = 7/21
No more buying DVDs ? 2018 target 27/52

I think the film in one's imagination is to be preferred in the first instance to the Films on the screen, that's why Reading is so good for us. Your brain lights up.
I don't know if this means anything but I forced myself to read when I was depressed as in incapable of feeling and doing anything read and read and read and felt better!!#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Within the 52 books that I read this year I have to include an author whose surname starts with a different letter of the alphabet to ensure that I have at least one from A-Z - I think X might be a challenge in itself!
Ooh...good luck! :rotfl: Try a Chinese author...lots of names like Xin etc.
I don't envy that challenge at all: best of luck, and I look forward to seeing how you do on that! Please call me 'Pickle'

I can't remember where I saw it (might have been earlier in this thread:rotfl:), but I read a book called 'No More Clutter' by Sue Kay. It has really helped me get on with whittling down the clutter: I have got rid of sheadloads of old paperwork that I realised I don't actually need within a week. And I am nowhere near done. Get the to a library and get a copy!

I've just finished 'Teacher Man' by Frank McCourt.
It was good. It shows that teaching is tough, and it is funny and moving, too. Please call me 'Pickle'

Hi
Reading all the post I realise I am not alone in having lots of unread books in the house. I probably have between 250 and 300 books that I haven't read!!!!!
I have decided that I can't buy any more books until I read the ones I've already got. But I love buying books.
Its the same with magazines - I probably have 10 that I haven't read.
I bought a Good Food subscription last year with my Tescos vouchers and they are still in the wrappers!!
I love going to the library and every time I go I decide that I only need one book - then I somehow end up with the maximum 15.
I have managed to read 2 books since Christmas - 1 library book and War Horse.
Today I discovered that I had 2 copies of War Horse and I have put them both on the Green Metropolis website to sell.
I think I am a hopeless case:jCross stitch cards completed 2010 -1

I was debating buying the slap but then I saw some reviews about it saying it was a pointless read and not really about what the title and blurb suggests, so I didn't. Why are you not sure?Challenge savings 2010-2016 £1564.60:j
