Fast broadband?!

Hi, I need some advice.
We are with AOL for broadband & have been for years.
We rang up about 7 months ago as we were paying £19.99 pcm so they reduced it to £9.99.
Son plays xbox live & is complaining that the connection/speed is so slow it's lagging.
It would be a pain to change from AOL, but if necessary we would.
I wondered if, because we had got cheaper broadband, it was a slower speed?
Also does anyone have a really good connection for gamers? If so, who is it with & how much do you pay?
Thanks
Annie

AOL probably just have high contention (more people sharing the line) which slows the speed down.
You need to look at getting a speedier broadband connection, such as Be or O2, there are also dedicated broadband connections for gaming - that have specifically low ping and latency (these help to increase the speed of gaming reactions). Some providers also prioritise gaming traffic on their network - so other people downloading large files don't slow down gamers.
There's a guide on gaming broadband here: http://www.chooseisp.co.uk/broadband-guide.../gaming-broadband.html
Some of the dedicated gaming broadband packages include Plusnet Pro for Gamers, Be Pro, O2 Pro. Also for less money - but still good connection, Be Unlimited or O2 Premium.0 -

I might be wrong but doesnt this mean you have started a 12 month contract with them ?
I would phone them and find out before you ask for a MAC code and then get a bill for the remainder of the AOL contract.0 -

You don't actually say what speed you are getting at present?

What speed does your line support?
What are the LLU options on your exchange?

I don't understand it0 -
It means you could get faster BB with the likes of O2/Be who use ADSL2+ and speeds of up to 24Mb.
Check here and see what O2 quote as likely speed.

This is the problem we have at the moment as son plays on xbox live :cool:0 -
When I checked last night I think Be was the best rated for gamers.

Be and 02 use the same network, so same possible speeds.
By far the best option for you as you can get it LLU. However if you have a TT LLU line then you will have to take it back to BT first in order to migrate your bb over to o2/Be.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
