Thanks Jem, how do you pair the viewing card?

Phone Sky up and ask them to pair the card with your new box and to activate the recording features and HD pack.

The reason I'm asking is that as far as I'm aware it's not that simple. You would need some form of video capture card and suitable software.

Most people would connect a DVD recorder to archive stuff from Sky+.

Remember (most of) the saved files will still be encrypted so will need to be reloaded into you STB to play.

Copy+ isn't really meant for simple saving of Sky+ stuff - it's really meant for those wishing to upgrade their hard drive.

This didn't sound like what jamespir was intending to do.

Its for backing up and also used for upgrading your Sky box with a bigger hard drive, drives over 500gb (IIRC) have to have at least one program copied to the new drive otherwise it wont work in the Sky box, you can of course copy all the programs over so you dont loose them when upgrading the drive :)

I appreciate that it can be used for backup purposes.

However to my mind jamespir wanted to save his Sky+ stuff to his laptop and then to either save it to DVD or watch it from there.

"What Can I NOT do with Copy+?
Perhaps most importantly, here is a list of the things Copy+ cannot do:

Copy programs to your PC hard disk for viewing later
Copy programs to your DVD recorder, or indeed any other device that is not a Sky+ box
Merge the contents of two disks - The destination is always overwritten
Copy any other type of disk other than a Sky+/XTV format - Use Norton Ghost or similar if you want to do that
Edit programs on your Sky+ drive to remove ad breaks, or padding
Run on a Mac or under Unix/Linux - Sorry I have no plans for such a version "

He would also have to open up the Sky HD box, remove the HD and then connect it to the laptop via a caddy. It doesn't sound to me like this is what he was looking for.

Perhaps jamespir can explain what he wanted to do?
