Box I got was 250 Gb.

That's the standard size box I believe. The bigger capacity boxes cost more new.

If you have a tendency to keep recordings, space may become an issue. If you watch and delete, you should be OK.

The DRX890 (500Mb) is being fitted as standard now but mostly only by Sky installers - most of the sub contractors still using the 250Gb boxes. No extra charge on this box.

The 1Tb box does have an extra charge.

    A regular sized one

normal sized but sort of rounded at the front.

why self install, was it cheaper.

Sky plus is brilliant, but HD - we couldnt see enough difference that warraned £10 extra a month.

Would agree cancelled mine for that reason. HD is nice but not worth £10 a month.
  • I had the hd pack and took it out as £10 is too expensive as I do not have movies or sport. BBCHD and Channel 4 hd are available without paying extra

It's what was fitted when I had sky HD installed
however I upgraded from std sky not sky plus and am merely relaying the information the installer gave

No its not what you had fitted, you had a Sky quad lnb fitted but I can see how you would be confused.

The Op never mentioned their existing install was sky+ nor did my installer have need to mention the receiver fitted being the same for sky+
Glad the OP got their help though, thats the main thing.

The 250gb box is the newest of the free issue boxes, it replaced the 160gb boxes very recently. They only publicise the capacity available for you to record programmes, so it is fitted with a 500gb hard drive, which you can only use 250gb of.

I would say, therefore, that you've got the best you can get for free - The 1tb box is £249

What you had fitted was a new LNB, probably becuase your old one only had a single feed and for Sky+ or SkyHD you need two feeds and a new quad LNB would have been fitted. Apart from the ability to provide more feeds from the LNB they are exactly the same for Sky, Sky+ and SkyHD.

A self install HD box is only an option for those customers already having Sky+ as the appropriate LNB and cables are already in place.

So from that point of view we knew what the OP already had.

    Q. Sky+ to HD, as simple as removing cables from one to the other or will it require tuning etc

    Thanks
