Which baby milk?

Hi
If this continues you need to go to your doctor who will give you some powders to put in the milk to minimise puking. Both my babies were puky - breastmilk, SMA white, SMA gold and Farleys - they had reflux. Yours may well have too. The vomiting isn't projectile is it?0 -
As others have said, little babies feed a lot. He won't always feed like this and if you keep at it, within a few weeks life will be much much easier. I very much doubt if your milk is not sufficient.
he may also be comfort sucking. You could try giving him your finger to suck for a while if he has fed and is still unsettled.
Remember that formula milk, whilst very advanced, does not in any way compare to breastmilk. There are about 30 different ingredients in formula milk. At the last count, there were over 300 in breastmilk. Some people dont' want to breastfeed - that is their perogative. However, very few women(maybe 1 or 2 %) actually can't feed their babies. Just give it time, don't try to do anything else except rest and look after yourself and your baby."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -
this happens about homebirth too - people get very insistant on their side of the srgument being right.
I have no problem with what anyone wants to do, but im having a homebirth and i wont be breast feeding. my health visitor tried FIVE times in our initial appointment to get me to try, i nearly threw her out. how dare she come into my house and try and make me do something i dont want to do?0 -
im not good on the whole womany thing on breast feeding but when the missus couldnt cope with the demand she bought a breast pump. worked won ders but then that wasnt satisfying him so she stopped and we moved onto sma 20

With my second child I bought one of the milks that say is closest to breast milk. This was the advice of my health visitor. If you just want to do the odd top up you can buy little cartons that are around 50p. Milk clinic at your drs surgery do the tins cheaper than the shops.
My first I fed for a year he would refuse point blank to have a bottle even if it was my milk.
my second I changed to bottle after a few months as I was so sore it was horrible.
I am on my third now I am feeding him myself but I have left a bottle of formula when going out at night.
Tried to express again this time round but found it too sore.
Do what you feel is right for you and baby. Enjoy them while you can whatever way you feed.
Having had three now all I can say is they have been so different in their acceptance of the boob and my boobs have reacted differently to each of them !!
Breastmilk does not take as long as formula to digest hence the reason why they can feed all day. Think I read it only takes 90 mins for breast milk to go through them-that is on a full feed so if they are not having a full feed and are having a growth spurt then it will feel like you are feeding all day.
My youngest is almost 4 months and doing well on the boob. He is only now becomming a bit more in a routine with regards his feeding and sleeping. But if you were to compare him to a bottle fed baby he probably has no routine really.
The way I cope with all the feeding is by putting the tele on ,my feet up and forgetting the mess, washing ironing cooking cleaning and all the other stuff!!! works for me:rotfl: I nip out to do the shopping at night sooo much easier without the kids.0 -
oops forgot to say the milk i use for my top ups is milupa aptamil first. A blue carton for 49p.200ml.0

My sister had to stop breast feeding her son because he was losing weight and wasn't getting the amount he needed. Sometimes it isn't about what the mother wants, or a case of not trying...its a simple case that baby needs something that mother can't give whatever she does. Do whatever is right for you.
Now my nephew is a very happy, lively and bright 2 year old. In fact he's bigger than most kids his age, and he will never miss a trick.
When my bean comes along I'm not sure what I will do. I'll do what feels right at the time.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.
Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0 -
It does feel sometimes that your boobs are public property with every one having their say. Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "it gets on my t*ts!"Context is all.

This post wasnt about telling the op to put some time and effort into breast feeding, or persevere a little longer or what ever ......... op asked a question about formalae and we should respect that.
my midwife arrived at my home when my son was 7 days old with a tub of formula, she always told me breast is best, but she said she wasnt going to push anyone to breaking point. she advised mixing, and recommend my son have one bottle a day to start , which i did.
She bought me cow & gate premium ? to start, my son was very cxonstipated, so we ended up changing on her recommendation to omneo as TraceyB.
good luck hun and dont beat yourself up about it.

Could anyone actually read my posts please rather than suggesting that I told the OP to put more time and effort in?
If she doesn't want to breastfeed it doesn't affect me the slightest, however if she is looking for some advice on how to increase her milk supply then we can give her some support.
I was merely asking for clarification as the OP said that she had been 'advised to top up' and that the formula milk was making her baby sick. In this case there are many ways of improving her own milk supply and therefore stopping the sickness.
I fail to see how that could be misconstrued as me telling her to 'try harder'.Just run, run and keep on running!0
