I 100% agree with you Littlelou, been and ate at the Cycle a few times. Good food.0 -
This is not for the posh folks but a great central place.
lloyd's No.1 in the centre of Dundee.
We got some vouchers from them and after the Rep yesterday went for 2 10 Oz Rump Steaks and a bottle of Red Fetzer for ONLY _ _ _ £11.99

So if you are in the town in Dundee and fancy a quick bite to eat and a very cheap drink pop in.:TTo be able under all circumstances to practice five things constitutes perfect virtue; these five things are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness.0 -
The Spotlight restaurant in Perth, just round the corner from the new concert hall. lovely staff, good cooking, good atmosphere, thoroughly enjoyed an impromptu lunch there0

My first post and my fav places to eat are dinner at Nosey Parkers (Queens Hotel) Dundee, lunch at the Cornkist (Milton Haugh) Carmylie. Anytime at the Chapter and Verse (Forfar). all serve fresh vegetables no frozen stuff, mind you I've never seen chips on there menu's, and the service in each place is good if your not in a rush. All are reasonably priced and I reckon good value.0

Can't believe that no-one's already mentioned The Town House in Markinch. (Shame on you Fifer.) Great quality, unpretentious food, with a varied, inexpensive (IMHO) menu.
Also, the Pane E Vino in Kirkcaldy, for good quality Italian food, and great service.
As a bonus, both of these places normally have BOGOF main course vouchers of some kind in the Leader.0 -
a belated wave from another Dundonian
Cargill's in Blairgowrie, down by the river. friendly, relaxed & lovely food
Aga Khan (sp?) Perth Road Dundee, Greek/Turkish food coooked in front of you. small sit-in area & the whole place has been spectacularly decorated by the owner who's an artist
Fraser's, Broughty Ferry on the outskirts of Dundee. only open Friday & Saturday evenings as it's a hobby for the chef/owner. seats around 30 max, booking essential. expect to be there all evening, plenty of time for conversation. £30 per head for 5 courses + home-made tablet & abundant coffee

Hi there All
I'm originally from Dunfermline and I've just spent the last few years studying in Dundee. Two great places to eat in Dundee are Rancho Panchos on Commercial Street which is a mexican restraunt which is really laid back and the food is amazing and the menu has a massive selesction and the Pheonix Bar on the Nethergate is great for pub lunches. One place NOT to go is Papa Jacques in Broughty Ferry the Kitchen is a mess!
In Dunfermline two good places for food are Dos amigos, on Chalmers street just past the glen gates (yes I'm a fan of mexican,) and Luigis on Queen Anne Street for Italian. Both have great atmospheres the waiters in Luigis always have a twinkle in their eyes and the cocktails in Dos Amigos are really tasty too.New house, garden and kitten. oh my!

Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

The cheapest place for a cuppa in Dundee town centre is the Counting House (Reform Street) only 69p. Their hot choc is 79p and its topped with lots of cream. they also do meals 2 x currys for £4.99. Service at busy times can be a bit slow but its a comfortable setting. This is a part of the Weatherspoons group and recently there was a newsletter with umpteen coupons for money off food and drinks. very good value.0

one I forgot about in Dundee, The Trades House Bar, on the corner at the top of Union St
they do very good bar lunches till 3 o' clock (no evening meals) & are one of the few places that still serve proper steak pie* done in a tray & served with a square of pastry that's actually been cooked on top of the meat
*& not beef stew with a separate oval of pastry that shatters & makes a hideous mess the minute you try to eat it
the menu changes daily, so if the steak pie's not on, for red meat lovers I'd recommend the roast beef as a substitute0
