How often do you bath your dog?

Hi we have 2 dogs, both boys. One is a staffy x lab and has a lovely silky short coat and he very rarely smells. Our other boy is a strange shaped collie type thing (of course we love him to bits) with ridiculous fuzzy medium length fur and he always smells like an old sock! :(If I bath him he is ok for about a week then starts to pong again. I dont want to bath him again too soon ,so put up with the smell ....
but how often is it recommended that you bath a dog without doing harm to the coat etc. I have always had girl dogs before and do think it has a lot to do with him being male...any idea's welcome:D Having put up with his D.O for quite a few years I am very grateful for any advice!
Thanks

Bless him..webath our spaniels about once every 2 months or when they get muddy!
dont know what to recommend shampoo wise but im sure someone here will.
I do know if they have rolled in fox poo or similar, that rubbing tomato sauce in first before a bath does neutralise the smell very well..friend has done this.TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -
I never bath my 3, if they've rolled in something then they get hosed off but thats it! Never any shampoo.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0

I bath mine around once a month but make exceptions if they are extra muddy or smelly. Luckily I live and work in a kennels so it's easy for me to do.0

I asked my dog groomer this recently as I thought maybe I should bath my dog more often because he is a long haired breed although I keep him quite short. The groomer said that unless they are dirty or smelly they don't really need a regular bath. Luckily my dog doesn't smell a lot but I think it must be the type of coat his breed have so he only gets a bath at the groomers every 2-3 months.
Have you ever heard of a doggy spray like this:

My friend uses something similar on her German Shepherd- not tried it personally? Maybe worth a go you could spray on while grooming him - it might help lengthen the time in between baths!
Also I have read somewhere but can't find it now!?!
That some of the lower quality dog foods can make dogs more smelly? I think it must have been in the literature Burns sent me?
Good luck!

Generally only when she has rolled in something - she has very soft fur, like a smooth collie and does not smell at all unless she has rolled in something, either some variety of !!!!!!, or something dead and decomposing...
My dad has a JRT who gets a bit 'doggy' and needs a bath about once a month - he is neutered (the terrier that is, not my dad!). We once had a terrier that stank like an old goat though, I dont know why but he was the smelliest dog we have ever owned - a healthy dog, just pungent!0 -
NEVER! and I see these dogs out walking with their coat clipped, bows and smelling like a human - god I feel so sorry for them.0

My mixed breed smelly very doggy but I like it
I only shower him once or twice a year in the summer time but he hates it 0 -
As my pooch gets filthy on an almost daily basis, I asked my vet about baths. He reckoned whenever you like if you only use water. 3/4 times a year with shampoo.
In the summer I just let him swim in the river.0 -
The swimming thing has just reminded me of the only time Alf has ever been swimming, it was when he charged in to a hedge and disappeared , next thing we heard a was a loud splosh, he had fallen about 10ft into a deep stream. He was not amused and hasnt been swimming since!JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200
