At the store I worked at , as is company policy, all 'daily paperwork' is gone through the next morning before being posted off to head office. This includes going through all Whatever Happens sales and making sure there is a signed mandate. If there isn't one, or there's a mandate that hasn't been signed, whoever was responsible for the sale would be in big trouble (at our store at least). So I wonder if they forged your signature on the mandate. Have you been back to the store to have words with the salesperson who sold you the pc? Not that you should have to but in my experience with some of the people who work at PC World they will think they can get away with doing this forever until an angry customer confronts them!:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls
I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

hi Kymbogs
thanks for info. No I didnt sighn anything but is that only if you set up a direct debit ? I paid for my laptop by credit card and when i checked my receipt it had credit card mandate £8.49
than the Total below that. My error was only looking at the total to pay which was correct not checking how they came to that figure. Im assuming that if you pay by credit card they dont need a signed mandate. Im thinking it would be a nice idea if PC world brought in a policy that you have to sign an agreement regardless of how you chose to pay. But how many sales would they lose by being up front an honest . fruitree0 -
credit card mandate needs signing too. The DD and credit card mandate is the same form just with the appropriate bit filled in.:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls

hi kymbogs
That great news I honestly thought I had no way of proving that I didnt ask for the insurance. It also makes sense of the fact that when I called the phone line to cancel it took them ages to
find my policy as I had no details to give them.
So could I ask you one thing can I go in to store (watford) and say produce my signed
mandate ?
I havent been to the store to complain yet as I m not to well at the mo and can only cope with so much stress. I didnt fancy an argumnent along the lines of " it was on your receipt so tough" but now you have given me somthing I could ask for. fruitree0 -
TBH even without your coverplan details it shouldn't take THAT long to find you on the system as you can look people up by surname and postcode - though the system does bring up virtually anything you've bought from any DSGi store, ever (where you've given your details) so it can take a short time to sift through it all.
The store shouldn't be in possession of a signed mandate as the daily paperwork I mentioned previously gets posted off to head office.
If/when you feel up to it, it's still worth going to speak to the store (or call them and ask to speak to the duty manager). They may take it seriously, they may not. Depending on the attitude of the managers, how well the store is doing and how much pressure the managers are under from head office regarding their sales figures, there's a small possibility that the manager could have actively encouraged the salesperson to try and sneak the insurance past you. I'm not saying this was definitely the case but I've seen the pressure these guys are under, with their jobs at stake if they don't keep performance up, and can imagine it happening.:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls

PS Try writing a letter to Jon Naylor at the sheffield address you posted before. He is/was in charge of customer issues like this, if he's not any more I'm sure it will be passed on to the correct person.I had an issue with a camera last year and wrote to him, not making any mention of the fact I worked for the company (as I didn't want it to seem like I was trying to get preferential treatment) and within 5 days of sending the letter I had a phone call from his office followed up by an email, and a very satisfactory resolution within a week.:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls

Thank you Esqui I agree im sure not all staff are doing this and that some people will have been told at point of sale and just forgotten to cancel. But in my case it was hidden and I was given no paperwork, nor was i sent any via the post. It took the guy on the phone awhlie to track my policy(in order to cancel it) as i had no info to give him eg policy number. fruitree
Also kymbogs, it may have changed since you were there - all direct debits and credit card mandates are kept in store for 6 months. I suggest OP goes and asks to see it (as allowed under Freedom of Information act). I'd like to hear how it goesSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

When we bought a laptop last year they tried to sell antivirus, then office, then said you can get a free month of insurance. Obviously I said no to the office and antivirus but for the insurance I asked whether it could be cancelled easily..
He said as long as it was cancelled within a month there would be no extra charge. I told him my direct debit details so I could cancel easily with my bank without having to ring them up. Cancelled as soon as it showed up on my account and got the free month of insurance.
Obviously shouldn't have put yours on, but I'd say it's definitely worth it if you're buying a laptop, as long as you know you'll remember to cancel.0
