I highly doubt that every salesperson is putting the whateverhappens on sales without people's knowledge! It would be very few, if any, who do.
If a salesperson cannot do their job well enough to sell whateverhappens to a customer by letting them know how they'll benefit from it, etc, and they have to massage the figures by doing something like that, then they have no place in the store.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Hi everyone
just off the phone to Whateverhappens. Well I hope the policy is now cancelled as i said before the insurance is PAYG. They have promised to send a letter confirming that
I have cancelled.
1) paperwork question. I was given lots of paperwork but no paperwork on
"Whateverhappens".
2) I also purchased a few other items on my receipt so I missed the + and - transaction.
I also asked who i could complain to and was told no one just the store !
thanks for your replys fruitree
ps just a small point the info on receipt was not enough in that it was not my policy
number. he had to look it up and give it to me as i have no paperwork.0 -

I very rarely buy anything at all from PC World, but I had the misfortune a few months ago to need a laptop at short notice so had to go there. They tried to do the same to me with the insurance, sort of muttering "I'll just discount that insurance for you..." evidently hoping I wouldn't notice and thus give him tacit approval. A quick "Don't even think about it" from me ensured the rest of the transaction was as awkward as possible.
After the manager of the store having an argument with me because I refused to buy Norton security, and calling me "stupid" (which of course, I was, for attempting to buy a laptop from that store, emergency aside), I wasn't really in the mood for getting mucked around even more.
I shudder to think about how much money they make from selling unnecessary software and insurance to people who don't know any better. An absolute disgrace of a store.0 -

That's the reason they play a (un)fair game. Who is going to notice this kind of charges(2 out of 10). They must be getting good profit from 8 people.
It's not an "Insurance Policy" in the normal way, eg it is not backed by a proper underwritter who are regulated by the FSA. They have a trust fund that pays the claims which is nowhere near as secure as having it backed by a bonafide Insurer.0 -
Well I have received my letter saying that my policy has been cancelled. I have had no
reply to any of my emails / letters of complaint.
So just to clarify what PC world has done to me and many others.
When you buy a pc on the receipt you will find a managers discount of -8.49
this will be followed by a charge of £8.49. This is for WHateverhappens insurance
and no they havent just given you a free months insurance. What they have done is signed you up for a regular monthly payment to your credit card of £8.49.
This can only be cancelled by ringing then up and asking them to cancel.
Please check its easy to miss as the total you pay at the till is exactly what you would expect pay.

I bought a PC from Pc World on the 17 Jan.
The sales guy did say that i get 1 month free whateverhappens insurance and I need to cancel it before the 17th of this month. He did say a letter would be posted to remind me about it. So far I have had nothing.
I will phone and cancel it on Monday.
I think they put these things in place so you will forget about them until you see it on your credit card bill.0 -

The letter is to welcome you to the service, it normally arrives within 28 days of purchase. But it won't say "don't forget to cancel", that'd be silly.I think they put these things in place so you will forget about them until you see it on your credit card bill.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. "The payg is in place to make it easier for all. Staff can't be responsible for people forgetting - but, as I said earlier, they shouldn't be tricking people into having it without realising."
Thank you Esqui I agree im sure not all staff are doing this and that some people will have been told at point of sale and just forgotten to cancel. But in my case it was hidden and I was given no paperwork, nor was i sent any via the post. It took the guy on the phone awhlie to track my policy(in order to cancel it) as i had no info to give him eg policy number. fruitree0 -
[FONT=times new roman, new york, times, serif]Hello sir / madam
Policy number
(I phoned to cancel)
I am very unhappy at your lack of response to any of my emails regarding my policy
"Whatever-happens". I now have the letter of cancellation but no apologies or explanation
as to why you allow your staff to sell this in such an underhand way.
I would like to draw your attention to Moneysavingexpert.com i have posted my
grievance there in the Praise,Vent & warnings section under "PC World whateverhappens"
at present 743 people have read my post and this is rising each day. I hope you will now
feel that you can reply to my emails as I will update the forums of your response or rather lack of it.
Please could you also confirm what one of the posters said on the forum and i quote
"Not quite. This *can* be cancelled instore. But if you cancel it in store, it won't count against the store's target. Whereas if you cancel it over the phone, it will still count as a PC Performance sale for the store. Maybe the company would like you to keep it, but in-store, it doesn't matter to the sales person whether you do or don't, just that you walk out of the store with it on the sale."
I feel this is again outrageous that a store can keep its sales figures up by slight of hand. I'm not going to
resend you my original emails you can read them at the forum mentioned above the messages are all copy and pasted to the messaged board.
I look forward to a reply that so that I can let the Moneysavingexpert.com know that Pc world is interested in after sales care
your sincerely
Ive just sent this email will update you all as to reply fruitree
