  • I've got 20 1 and 2's in my P&P :S guess people don't like recycling! As I only chrage stamp price for postage, so it can't be that
    20?

I dunno how much you sell, but we get out about 100 orders pw, and have got 5 over a year, and I thought that was bad.

I'm not trying to be confrontational or anything, but it really might be a good idea to have a look at better quality packaging.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

do you state in your listing you reuse packaging?
  • I do state now that its recycled, but didn't before. They are all clean and fir for purpose though. I don't sell much at all, few items a week, I'm only clearing out the house before I move. But was considering starting up as a business once I move.......maybe then I'd buy some jiffys

4,4 is pretty low and will put you lower down in the best match searches. I must admit if I see sellers with 4.4 I think twice before buying from them. Although it sometimes means you get things cheaper as others avoid them. The problem you have is if you are a small seller is keeping them at a good level because you don't have the turnover. So one poor set of DSRs can seriously effect you. Also if you have any other problems (eg a neg or other low DSRs) ebay sometimes put selling restrictions on the account.

What I do a lot on my private account is either offer Free P&P and absorb the costs in my starting price or set my prices lower than the actual cost (and put that in the price). It seems to have worked on that account. What IMO can also effect your P&P DSR is if your costs a noticably higher than the competition due to the postal method. If your sending via recorded on sub £39 items or sending everything 1st class it can make your postal prices seem high.

I send everything 2nd class (other than expensive stuff that needs to go special delivery) with an option to upgrade to 1st. My dispatch star is 5 on my private accounts and 4.9 om my business ones so by doing that I don't seem to have affected them at all.

Its all a bit of trial and error to find out what works for you in keeping your DSRs in good order. It can also depend on the cartegories you list in. We recently bought some baby clothes and looking through the listings a lot of clothes sellers seem to charge High P&P for their items to make up the price/ We bought one thing that was over double the actual cost to post. Hope some of that helps:D

Yes you should still be able to see the dashboard on a private account.

I've been sending everything out via 1st class signed for for protection for me. Last week I had a Paypal message saying someone had reversed a payment and one of the details they wanted was a tracking Number. Once they'd been given the info I had the money back in my account the next day. I'm assuming that if I had sent normal post then I couldn't have proven delivery to Paypal so would have had to have put a claim in through RM ?

Or am I missing something ?

    TIA

If it was a claim for fraudulent use of a card a proof of postage would have been enough to defend a claim.

to be honest when i buy i dont look at a sellers star rating i read the feedback. its another way for ebay to try to get people to play by their rules i reckon, i have received a couple of messages from them regarding this as i received some 1 and 2 star ratings for delivery time, even tho i clearly state in my auctions that i only post on saturdays as i work full time and cannot get to the post office during the week. ebay of course couldn't care less, at the end of the day their business is to make as much money as possible which is why they are going to start limiting normal private sellers to 100 free listings 99p or less. they state it is for other reasons but i think they realise they are missing out on huge amounts of listing fees. they are also reducing the amount charged for postage... some limitations are crazy considering actual postage costs with packaging but again this is ebay trying to get people to start auctions at a higher cost so they get more fees as they dont claim fees on the postage costs. basically ebay will always try to get money from sellers in any way they can and i dont think for one second they will stop anyone from selling items because of their Mcdonalds style star ratings... brush it off and put it down to other peoples stupidity if they cannot understand how it all works. i think people will only ever give good ratings if they dont actually pay for postage, my view is if they dont like the charges they shouldnt buy! .... rant over.... keep selling

it doesnt matter if you look at the stars,it can affect whether the items show when a buyer searches for them
  • Following on from this today I've had a glowing piece of feedback left regarding an item and despatch time albeit in Spanish yet he's left 1's right across the board in the DSR's. I'm wondering if as someone mentioned earlier he thinks that a 1 is good ?

I'm assuming the DSR's are updated straight away in judging which buyer it is?

Am I allowed to contact the buyer and ask if he's got his ratings mixed up ?

    TIA
