Do you get banned from selling if your star ratings are too low?

  • ... and a few people recently who don't seem to know how the stars work.

I think some new buyers click the wrong end of the line of stars. Must admit I had to look twice when the star ratings first came in.
  • From a buyers perspective I actually use the stars, and see them as a good thing.

For instance I can have a perfectly good transaction, items fine, p+p good, despatched quickly, but the communication is awful.
I don't want to leave a neg becasue there are some odd people, and they otherwise don't deserve it, but I can express my problem without getting into an argument.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p
  • I have the same problem with dsr's and i just been told it also gets marked down if the buyer doesnt leave ANY dsr for us sellers!

    Is that true?

Could be that too! I have to admit I never bother with the stars when I leave feedback. If I have a problem I'll email them to sort it out, if everything's awful I'll leave negative if nothing can be resolved... I wish they'd never brought them in. I don't understand from eBay's point of view why they would want sellers to end up getting banned because of silly things like this where the seller is actually fine and there's no problem with the sale - surely less money for them?

Bad sellers will cost ebay more money in poor reputation.

As TD as a buyer and seller I like them As a seller it keeps me on my toes. As a buyer it lets me rate the transaction. In a way other than leaving a neg. Sometimes a transaction as TD said one part can be poor but really you don't need to leave a neg so you can mark a seller down. This argument that if the seller doesn't know it can't be resolved is a little spurious. Sometimes there's nothing to be resolved.

Afraid there here to stay so sellers need to get used to them
  • Did you send them recorded? If so some buyer doesn’t like having to pay extra for something that doesn’t benefit them.

Recorded delivery items are for the benefit of the seller not the buyer, it doesn’t make the packages get to them any quicker and doesn’t give the package any more/less chance of getting lost by RM.

I'll often send recorded at my own cost if I "get that gut feeling" about a buyer - if they ask too many questions, or start demanding things.

Or if it's going into L11 postcode area...!

I do very much the same, normally it is slow payers who bombard me with emails re delivery once they have enventually paid!
  • Someone has just left me positive feedback on a item i sold for 1 pound with free postage, i have just noticed my star rating for P+P has gone down from 4.7 to 4.6, it was free and packed well, how can they leave you 3 or 4 out of 5 for that??? surely it should be 5 out of 5 :(

I have noticed recently that my postage DSR has gone down... and I dont understand it. I am very careful with my postage costs. I also make sure that parcels are sent promptly bu 1st class post.
