That's really interesting, lovetopaint - please let me know if your research shows the above is right. (With a bit of luck our resident nutrition expert ragz will be along soon to say if it matches what she knows.
)
The main problem for me with that list is having only two pieces of fruit a day: I love fruit and eat at least three pieces a day, usually more. That's probably not entirely healthy (too much sugar!) but it's got to be better than nibbling at crisps.Back after a very long break!0 -
Oh bum, thought I was doing a bit better today - then realised it's not half 12 at all - so rather too long before lunch
Must plan more protein for tomorrow (forgot to have a few slices of meat this morning)working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I did well yesterday in sticking to the plan but I worked out the calories in my macaroni cheese at a whooping ...... 800 cals :eek:
just as well I didn't eat the amount I wanted to!!
lesson learnt; cheese, flour, butter or marg mixed with milk is HIGH in calories! (was tasty though!) must stick to packets of cheese sauce in future and not make my own.
Today:
B: yogurt & banana 200 cals ish
S: none breakfast was eaten at 9am and I'm still full
L: forgotten my leftovers - bummer! ham salad sandwich no dressing I guess
S: crisps 95 cals
S: rasains and olives about 5.30pmchilli con carne currently in slow cooker - the whole thing is 1600 cals so I must only have 1/4 if I'm having any rice. Salad would be better :rotfl:
still no booze - and yesterday stuck to squash as had max-ed out on calories for dinner so no fizzy drinks allowed!0 -
Shezam I'm afraid most of that 7lb would have been fluids so that's why you'll find yourself regaining most of it. It takes a 3500 calorie deficit to burn away a lb of fat (very rough generalisation but widely used) so even if you didn't eat for 2/3 days you wouldn't 'really' lose that much. Sorry. Don't let it defeat it you though, you can still keep a lb or two off.
The 'it's muscle gain' thing is rather a myth, it does take an awful lot longer than most people think to form a lb of extra muscle.
Lovetopaint you're daily food requirement/target looks pretty good, everyone's needs are different of course but do make sure you include wholegrains in there, a few portions a day. For fibre and energy. The fruit max, is that because you're worried about the sugar?
While targets are fine to do daily, for an evaluation of your food intake it is better to asses your diet over a longer period, at least a week, to get a good idea of whether it's 'balanced'... we all eat (and NEED to eat) different amounts of different things on different days so if you look at your food intake over a longer period you can see whether you really are having too much meat, not enough veg etc.
Same goes for those who are calorie counting, there's no point aiming for a SET amount of say 1500 a day EVERY day if on some of those days you sit around doing nothing and other days you walk a few miles, stay up late or whatever. Your body may tell you you are more hungry one day and you should listen to it. Look at your intake over a week to see if you are on track.
Also that way the choccie bar you HAD to have on Friday morning doesn't look to bad next to the fruit and veg you consumed on Wednesday night...
Did my first Week 2 session of the Couch to 5k today - unsurprisingly 90 seconds of jogging IS a lot harder than 60 seconds! Managed it though and very pleased with myself.

been to asdas today and stocked up on low fat everything, fruit etc,
trouble is i have to hide some or the lads will eat everything, when it comes round to shopping day virtually the only thing left in the house is nasty white bread, the boys eat huge ammounts and one of them is so thin he looks almost anorexic, certainly dosent take after me!
and my daughter has a lovely slim figure too, but i was slim too in my teens/twenties, now look at the state of me
anyway, i'm having salad for tea, my clothes seem to feel a bit looser, i wonder if my scales need replacing? i'm sure they cant be right,0 -
Well Monday went well except for 2 x Ferrero Rocher chocolates in the evening, but as we all say, now at least they are gone. Tuesday was also good but DH wanted a brandy in the evening and I had one too, luckly both of us avoided the deadly trap of wanting to eat after a drink.
I also wanted to say, especialy to all those who have problems exercising, concentate on what you CAN do, don't obsess over what you can't do. I can't run, shin splints and tendency to develop plantar fasciatis (so no sub 4hr marathons!:rotfl:) but I can use the cross trainer, the rower and the bike, and walking is not a problem either. It takes a lot for me to get out to the gym (can't let the membership go to waste) but its worse if I don't go and this motivates me to get off my backside."doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -

800 calories may sound like a lot but it isn't a HUGE amount for dinner when you look at some things. Also depends what you have the rest of the day. You can make cheese sauce less calories yourself without resorting to a packet. Try using stronger cheese and less of it, mustard to bring out the flavour, skimmed milk instead of whole... and have a smaller portion bulked out with veg.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Make the cheese sauce with cornflour and no butter xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I was totally wrong about today, I didn't have time for breakfast, had lunch out and shan't eat til I come in tonight at 10pm.
Lunch was a ginormous gammon steak (luckily no fat on it), 2 eggs and side salad, which was already dressed so nowt I could do but suffer it. I'll know in future, ask for no dressing. Just had some grapes and a plum since I got in, and supper will be a small prawn salad
I'm in deep trouble, just been invited to coffee with a friend on Friday who's making lemon drizzle cake as she knows it's my favourite. I don't know if I have the willpower to refuse. If it was a choice between the cake and Johnny Depp asking me to walk the plank tied to him I'd have to go for the cake. Well perhaps not quite but it'd be a heck of a tough choice
.
Liz I agree on concentrating on what you can do and I do, I just can't breathe . Still two/three minute snatches every hour of two have got to make some difference...haven't they? Trouble is the dog follows me everywhere I go and doing step-ups on the bottom stair is totally confusing him - she's going up. Oh, no she's not. Yes she is, umm, no...poor dog has got to the point where he goes up anyway and sits at the top waiting to see which way I'm going to go! :rotfl:
Weigh-day tomorrow :eek:0 -
sparrer - LOL at your poor dog! I can just see his poor, bewildered face!
Molly / ragz / mlz - darn you all, you've got me craving macaroni cheese now! Sadly, even if I could justify the calories (and 800 still sounds like a lot to me - I'm currently aiming for 500 max for an evening meal), it just doesn't fit into my meal plan - I'll have to remain a macaroni-free zone for the foreseeable future.
Oh, and my reason for posting (macaroni cheese aside!) was to update my afternoon snack as a bunch of grapes. (Not a very interesting update really, is it?)
Back after a very long break!0
