I thought about doing that but it didn't seem like enough! I'd want about £5 per pound to motivate me, then maybe cash it in every 7lb...
I agree we need more MSE type tips, but at least we aren't all moaning about slimming clubs we go to and spending a fortune sticking to things like Weightwatchers and Slimmingworld... or joining gyms that we never go to!
I think Weightloss Old Style is more about eating healthily while not spending a fortune on 'lo-fat' alternatives and sticking to the simple rule of weightloss
EAT LESS + MOVE MORE = WEIGHT LOSS
Works for me. Though we do all Plateau at some point (I had 6 weeks where I went up and down a lb or two but ended the same as I started) but there's always a way...June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Hi everyone,
Been lurking around this thread for a while, I sometimes post on other threads and noticed how many of my offerings are recipies! That sums me up, I love cooking and EATING!:D and can usualy come up with an idea or recipe and then follow through by making and eating it. Thus I am overweight and have to lose some weight for my self estem (and health!), my goal is to lose a stone and eventualy lose 3 stones. Weight today 15st 1lb. I need to make a proper plan or I wil find myself with only saussages in the freezer!
Another problem is that my lovly dog can no longer go for walks so I am not getting that regular exercise, its nmot the same to walk down the village without him. (dreading what will happen next for him, he has kideny disease:()"doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -
Me agin, just wanted to say that the very reason I joined this thread (apart from my spare tyres) is I belive the best way to lose weight is to eat sensibly, cook home made in a lower fat/calory way, excersize as as part of the daily routine, ie not special excersize but doing things like walking to the shop etc. Someone once told me that if you stick to your diet for 80% of the time then 20% of the time you can relax, so if you are good during the week but then relax for the whole weekend you've overdone it a bit as the weekend is actualy about 28% of the whole week and of course most of us start the weekend on Friday night! So I am going to try "relaxing" a bit less next weekend,:)"doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0

Hmm Dr Dragon has been sneaking the snacks in again - I think we both need to get back to the Ration Book Diet because when I was sticking to it I did lose weight, I can't really exercise due to chronic pain and crutches
, oh and hypothyroidism (gee can it get worse!)

That's pretty much exactly what I was going to come on here and say!I feel that OS principles fit so beautifully with basic weightloss principles - making your own rather than buying calorie-laden shop bought versions, and bulking out meals with loads of veg - that I should lose weight just by coming on to the OS board. It's just a shame it doesn't work like that in reality, isn't it?
Lazy Liz - welcome to the thread. I can totally sympathise with the whole loving cooking 'problem' because I'm exactly the same. One of my key ways of losing weight is by working out lower fat / higher veg content versions of meals I want to cook, as that way I get the fun of cooking and experimenting in the kitchen without piling on more weight (or that's the intention, anyway!).

Hi - delurking now some foodies have come out of the closet. Just thought I'd mention a new cookbook I got out of the library - skinny French kitchen

In her bourguignon (362 calories)she uses shin or leg of beef and no bacon because the gristley bits melt to a silky sauce. I tried it using the slow cooker and it was lovely. Served with 'light' mashed potato (light means whipped with a hand held electric mixer which makes it bigger and lighter). I wouldn't buy it but well worth a borrow for some of the ideas.0 -
Today so far
B - FruitnFibre, glass grapefruit juice, tea
L - salad of celery, cucumber, tomato, grated carrot, mushroom, beetroot, boiled egg, one desertspoon Mr M's ever-so-light mayo. 1/4 melon, Muller light
D - will be late as I'm out this evening so will decide what to have when I get back. Usually just a piece of fruit as it's too late to eat but will report back if I decide (even if it something sinful)
Ragz re eating well and OS, one of the things I do is buy whole milk and dilute it 50/50. Somehow it doesn't lose its creaminess, and no-one who's tried it has sussed yet - or at least they haven't commented. I also buy fruit'n'fibre plus a large box of low price bran flakes and mix the two together, There's still loads of 'bits' per bowl and saves about 50%

Hi all, welcome to all newcomers.
well food has been as planned - apart from one lonely marshmallow!!
That's a whole day with no bread, chocolate, cake or flapjack and only one sweet! It's been a while!!
I was only hungry in the morning - after my weatbx eating fruit through the morning wasn't quite enough so I may need a bit more breakfast but I have points left to play with.
Keep it up all.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

PROTEIN!
I can't stress enough the importance of including protein at breakfast. A quick google will show you many interesting articles on the subject and suggestions for good breakfasts that include plenty of protein, I have provided a few examples for anyone who's interested.
Is your breakfast making you fat? this one is fascinating, if anyone has time read the study of the 10 different breakfasts and how they effected the participant you'll learn a lot about how different foods work and are used in our bodies (I especially like that a fry up is a better breakfast than muesli!)
High Protein Breakfasts
Why a high protein breakfast...
I think it is important (and certainly Moneysaving and OldStyle!) to learn how to eat better for good rather than get caught up in faddy diets, diet plans or 'point' or calorie counting. Those things are rarely sustainable for good whereas a healthy, balanced diet should be a lifetime habit. Learning to understand what our bodies need, nutritionally and how to fit our diet to those needs is more beneficial in the long term than memorising how many calories there are in a marshmallow!
(I'm studying diet and nutrition at the moment, hence the lecture, sorry)
