Lesley,
Mealplan looks interesting. I like the sound of sweet potato and lentil soup for 36p. Would you mind sharing recipe?
Thanks
Sandra

It's from Feasts From The Place Below. The 36p includes a sandwich made from HM bread BTW with a sliver of cheese in it
I use a slightly adapted version as the original makes a huge bucket of it, plenty for 6. He also says to use 100ml of olive oil for a velvety finish, but I don't want that many calories, so I only use enough to saute the veg
so for 4, it would be
30ml olive oil
250g onions, roughly chopped
360g sweet potato, peeled if you want to, and chopped
2 cloves garlic or equivalent from a jar
a bit of chilli for warmth, or black pepper
a scant tsp paprika
166g red lentils
1333ml water
a scant tblsp balsamic, cheap one is fine
sweat the onions and sweet potato in a couple of tblsp olive oil until soft, you do seem to be able to taste it, so worth using.
add the garlic, paprika, chilli if using and cook for a couple more mins.
add the lentils and water and simmer for 20 mins. Add balsamic and whizz, season generously with salt and more pepper if you want a little more warmth0 -

Some of the formula haven't survived the upload, but you should be able to see it alright
Lots to do on it yet

Thanks for that - will be interested to see final version of this.
Have currently got your "Savoury Carrot Layer" in the oven. So far - looking and smelling good:). A less frugal version - as I've used butter instead of buttery spread and a bit more egg than stated (as I'm doing half quantity - so, rather than try for 1.5 eggs - I've used 2).
So - done my ceridwen tweaks for own personal use there with that - and the flour is wholemeal/organic/stoneground.......
Will be having it in a minute with spicy potato wedges, peas and a bit of home-made (not by me) courgette chutney (errr....whoops...possibly a bit of sugar in it? - dont know...as bought at a Green Event).0 -

glad you like it, must say I'm pleased with how it is shaping up. We were veggie for about 15 years, so have quite a store of recipes from then, and still like to eat veggie pretty often
Just tried the pastry made with oil for a pie. Added a little more water and it rolled beautifully. Cooked it had a lovely short texture and tasted good too, so I'll def do that again
If you want any of the recipes from the planner that I haven't posted, just shout and I'll post them0 -

mmm, that sounds a tasty combination. When you say whoops sugar, do you try not to eat any at all?0 -

yep - I try not to ever eat sugar if I can help it. Not always possible to avoid it - but I reckon I have VERY little compared to most people. Re my current MSE "signature" re doing a time-travel back to the 1970s in a Tardis - I never had my own copy of the books concerned - now I will though:D. I've ordered the (updated) version of "Limits to Growth" and also "Silent Spring". The food one of the three (ie "Pure, White and Deadly") is currently very expensively priced on Amazon - so I've ordered a similar one ("Sugar Blues") - so will be able to "refresh my memory" as to why.... Also awaiting the other two books by Constance Mellor (a 1970s naturopath) - as I've had one of hers all along.
This is certainly prompting me to do a bit of "revisiting" of previous reading...
Anyways - I've just finished my dinner and that carrot recipe was quite tasty:) - guess its a sorta vegetarian take on moussaka?
So - worth doing again...and various other veggie versions (I'm thinking maybe some cooked brown lentils and sauted onions next time - with that eggy/cheesy sauce on the top).
EDIT: An entry I found about sugar before on Google has gone up to the top of the page again - which is good....as I'd posted it before on MSE and then lost track of it. I've posted it over to my MSE homepage now...0 -
