lesley, Aless and taka thanks so much :T:T:T
When not pregnant I'm normally 9 stone 10 and am 5 ft 5 and a half,
and I do seem to think that 1800-1900 was a target figure for me for maintenance...
Hmmmmn, what shall we do about where the figures difffer?
Aless's figures are tieing up with a middle range of exercise for Taka's figures. moderate exercise seems about average, we were going to include a proviso if any of your family were in training for olympic rowing that we were going to need to supplement the calorie intake!
So shall I take a ball park of 8500 cals daily for the family (that adds in 2-300 cals a day extra for possible wastage)?
Interestingly, the wartime ministry of food took the view that if each family had right rations for weight maintenance then if someone was over or underweight, but ate this amount then very gently and imperceptably their weight would adjust to it's own right level. Does that make sense?
Ie if any of the family are overweight then in 6-12 months without it feeling diety, they should adjust to a normal range weight. (as long as they don't go completeyly sedentary to compensate!!!)

I think that the familes bodies would adjust as you say. Our bodies are very adaptable to whatever we put into them, losing/gaining weight does not work like the diet books/mags say in that if you eat/don't eat 1 extra choc biscuit a day, by the end of the year you will be the size of a house / have lost 7 stone.
If the plan provides the average number of cals in good nutrition, I don't think we want to be any more prescriptive than that. It will be hard enough for B&S to follow, without thinking, well S could do with losing a stone so that means x cals a day over 3 months, so what shall she not eat. It needs to be B&S's responsibilty to decide how much they will eat I think, as in normal life for them, and everyone else0 -
murrell I was thinking of doing the vegan shop at tesco, since asda don't have cornmeal which is an excellent source of calcium.
Here is a list I'm thinking of. Would you mind giving it the once over and seeing if there are any vegan no-nos on it?
Thanks loads
Hiah Weezl,
It looks fine to me. The cornmeal in the list in on mysupermarket site for asda as well as tesco and a penny cheaper! Perhaps you need to search for polenta or its not on there own site for some reason. I just had a look as I found it odd that they wouldn't sell it.
On a side note this year walnuts are expected to be in short supply according to the veggie wholesale catalogue that I got today.
Also not relevant to this thread but aparently (same source as above) the goverment has once again got its hysterical head on so hemp seeds are currently unavailable. So don't include those for the omegas etc, not that they would be cheap enough!

I think that sounds reasonable Weezl. I think we can only use averages - it'd be too complicated otherwise and families vary so much!Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Lesley are you near petersfield?
We did the oxfam trailwalker a few years back, where you walk from there to brighton racecourse without stopping through a day a night and a day. Have you heard of it? It goes along the south downs way. It's really beautiful
Thanks for your post about the spreadsheet, I think I'm with you now, sorry about my slow brain
Fergie is still quite clingy today so I think after 7 would be a good headspace time for me today if that still suits you?
Other news:
Well having said we can't do a meal planner with a fresh fruit a day, I think maybe we can, but calories are our major downfall.
Without the cheese and meat of the other 2 planners, our vegan planner looks set to be quite paltry.
I put the whole meat menu into recipecal, it took approx 35 mins while fergie napped earlier, and if anyone felt able to do this to the vegan shopping list, I think we'd have a good idea of whether the 3rd vegan and fresh fruit planner is a goer.
Is anyone willing to have a go at that?
Sorry to be dishing out so many tasks, I'm just mindful of what Potty said that there are people who really do want to help, and I'm just not great at delegating

great, thanksI think it's because mysupermarket know my postcode and my local asda don't do it, but my nearest tesco does....
I think it is used to make a fantastic Jamaican dumpling, so I wonder if it is to do with how the major supermarkets are tailoring their stocks to areas where different nationalities congregate more and less.

not that near petersfield, no. Our local walk is the Cuckoo walk, which starts at Heathfield and goes quite a long way down towards the coast, not sure exactly where it stops. The walk you did sounds lovely, I walk every Wed with a group and the Sussex countryside is beautiful, found some great views and have a good gawp at all the big houses!
I have loaded a version of the spreadsheet with portions in here. I have also put in the dishes you last notified as the dinners, but haven't checked the ingredients yet. I can do after 7 this eve, so see you then. I'm off to the garden centre now to get some seed potatoes0 -
Can I ask a question about the vegan planner? I think you are going to hate me...
Ermmmm judging by the food listed at the mo I think the vegan family may be short on Vit B12. The hot oats are fortified but according to the Asda website the Asda version has 0.9microgrammes/100g ie 27ug in total which is too low for 1 person let alone 4 for a month! There doesn't seem to be too many other options on the list eg fortified soya milk / marg / yeast extract (eg Vecon stock). They'll need several portions of fortified food a day or to take daily / weekly supplements (which may be cheaper).

PS That is a LOT of cornmeal! Why so much cornmeal?

I'd hazard a guess it's something to do with high calcium and iron content of cornmeal, which the vegan family may find difficult obtaining on a budget otherwise.
I hope you'll not feed them ghastly cornmeal mush though, WeezlI love cornmeal and use a lot of it, but only in corn bread and biscuits.... (Oh, and I find it invaluable in thickening lentil and vegetable patties that otherwise just fall apart. I even used it in my Christmas pudding when I realised I had no breadcrumbs left and no bread to crumb, and it worked wonderfully well !).

Hi, very busy people!
Caught up with the thread. Looks like lots has gone on in my absence.
Are the lunches sandwiches with spreads and a piece of cake? Or are there cooked things too? Any recipes anywhere?0
