I am not a vegan, but thought that comments from others had suggested that it had to be "truly" vegan otherwise not worth doing and unfortunately budget would HAVE to increase.
So Weezl the choice is yours I think, compromise on the money to be true to vegans or compromise the vegans, who possibly won;t go anywhere near the plan if it isn't "real". Just my thoughts.!murrell, if you're still around!
vegan question: if planner 3 is true vegan, should I only look for veg society approved goods, I fear that might not be doable in budget...
I was thinking of planner 3 being mostly vegan, but I wonder if that's going to be perceived as a cop out!
example: tescos own version of ready brek contains calcium carbonate, but we don't know if this from animal sources.
however, this is also true of the calcium in bread flour, which is added by law but not listed as an ingredient.
Do you see my dilemma/confusion?!

Weezl do you have a current meal planner anywhere, as things have changed so much I have no real idea what the family are now eating.
If you have only got it rough, I could tidy it up and post it for you, if that would be helpful at all ?0 -
They were lovely
) Light, puffy, golden, just the right "bite" of herb and bacony saltiness. I guess I should have served them with potato salad, really, but although it turned out I had enough potatoes, they were a bit past their best, so while good enough for wedges, not really up to standard for a salad
8/10 from OH, 10/10 from me
I made a full batch - using one rasher of bacon - which meant we each had two, but with the spuds and beans or veg, it could have happily stretched to feed 4 at one each. Plus there is also the option of making smaller rounds, which could mean everyone in a family of 4 could have 2 each of the small ones, which might be an important psychological plus. Will definitely have again, thanks for the recipe !
A bit reluctant to post the photos, as I am so inept a photographer I could end up putting people off rather than enticing them in, but as I made the effort to snap away, I think I'll risk it0 -

thanks vanda
the nearly/mostly vegan was in order to have a fresh piece of fruit daily.
Fewer than 1% in both polls wanted true vegan sadly, so probably not worth lots of our effort at stage 1, I think.... But for the 20% of people who said that a piece of fresh fruit daily was a non-negotiable, then I think this nearly vegan one might be the way forward?
especially if we show that the calcium carbonate added to ready brek is just as likely not to be pure vegan as the stuff that's added to all white flour, pasta, bread in the uk by law since 1998 without being listed.
Does that make sense? Therecan't be a true vegan planner from asda since they can't give out the provenance of their calcium carbonate, so we'd be flour, pasta and bread-free if we went that route, so I think pretty much vegan is good enough.
I say this because I know 2 very principled vegans in real lifeand I know they use white flour from mr A and mr T, so I don't think it will deter even our 1% true vegans.
So that's my current reasoning and I think I'll run with it unless we have a large vegan outcry!:rotfl:
What do you think? does that sound like the best way to accomodate the most folk?
