weezl - supermarket stocks are regional. I can get certain things (mostly of the Caribbean variety) quite easily where I am that other parts of the country never see. For instance, black beans are cheap & easily available at both ASDA & Tesco around here, but other people seem to have trouble finding them. Too bad, because they are very lovely in certain dishes!

    aren't there also price variations?

my calorie calcs were all done assuming "moderate" exercise, by the way.

Can I ask a question about the vegan planner? I think you are going to hate me... :o

    *... runs for cover :o *

PS That is a LOT of cornmeal! Why so much cornmeal?

*ducks for cover... again :o :rotfl: *

    I don't hate you, it's a very good thing to notice.:D

    Erm, marmite? Would that help?

I'd hazard a guess it's something to do with high calcium and iron content of cornmeal, which the vegan family may find difficult obtaining on a budget otherwise.

I hope you'll not feed them ghastly cornmeal mush though, Weezl ;) I love cornmeal and use a lot of it, but only in corn bread and biscuits.... (Oh, and I find it invaluable in thickening lentil and vegetable patties that otherwise just fall apart. I even used it in my Christmas pudding when I realised I had no breadcrumbs left and no bread to crumb, and it worked wonderfully well !).

yep it's absolutely a calcium thing! It's a real saviour...

We could up the ready brek and lose a bit, if people think we can't make it palatable tho...?

there are a couple of soups to try and some onion bhajis and I think, fingers crossed a bacon turover or two... Art's list prob has them on, I'll have a lookie now :)

Frankie did you say how the stuffing was?

weezl Not sure we are a stuffing family, so don't listen to us to closely! It was a bit dry and lemony...

Thanks about the list. Is the idea to have sandwiches during the week and the other lunches on the weekend?

I think people were thinking that lunchboxes and soup weren't a good combo, so soup, beans on toast... would be more of a weekend thingie :)

Lesley, for some annoying reason I can only work on your spreadsheet offline once downloaded:mad:, but I've sent you a chat request so we can instant message each other while we look at the same document, we just won't be able to see each other's edits, how does that sound?:D

It will be much easier to edit it offline anyway. When doing formula etc, Excel has lots more functionality than googledocs, and you can whiz around the various columns easier too
