I have made chilli con carne tonight as it is an easy staple. Just wondered if you are interested in my ingredients list. I planned to make your chilli mince and rice but was so tired just went into something I can make without thinking mode.

    2 large onions chopped
    6 medium carrots finely diced
    2 cloves garlic
    450g mince
    2 tins chopped tomatoes
    1 tin plum tomatoes
    2 cans baked beans
1 pack home cooked kidney beans
    chilli powder to taste
    100g porridge oats

    served with rice.

Serves 5 hungry men plus me for two meals at least. Usually does a lunch or two too.

Ooooh PB you eek lots more portions out of your mince than I was allowing! That's fab :) I think Bob and shirl may get some marmite! Or..... um what else was I going to give them if I could squeeze it in?

How much is in your pack of kidney beans PB? could I do it with 1x 400g can or would it need to be 2?

*Weezl looks forward to her and lesley getting heads together on this here stock checker spreadsheet! :o*

veggie burger version 1 Mr weezl's feedback

    vegburger.jpg

Photo and recipe originally weezl's (sorry I have to put this now after a PM with MSE forum team about copyright rules etc...:o)

He loves it! Would definitely have it again. He thinks I need to up the bean to potato ratio, because the taste is very veggie burgery and nomnomnom, but the mouthfeel is more like a hash brown. Although he did say we could just call them spicy veggie hash browns and serve them as is and bob et al would wolf them down!:):):)
served here with HM bread, carrots and HM ketchup, I'm hoping shirley can make some bread rolls to go with them :)

Would be glad of the exact "recipe" you used for this our Weezl - as its obviously a possibility for me:)

Errr..I'm wondering exactly what happened re that "copyright" issue with the MSE team (perhaps you might like to tell me in a P.M./email???). (bristling a bit here re my "honorary niece"....love Aunty Ceridwen...)..xx

Lesley are you a fan of Jefferey Steingarten by any chance? :)

I had to look him up! He sounds like someone I would enjoy reading. I couldn't find a blog written by him, he seems to write for Vogue and written several books. I'll check it out at the library

Have I said something that sounds like something he would say?

he sparked my initial interest in subsistence and also is the writer who taught me about Umame! So I wondered if you were a sneaky fan :)
