ooo, what did we lose in order to get pumpkin seeds & liver? Pilchards! Fish is missing! What happened to weezl's omega-3s? :rotfl: I've stopped trying to keep up with weezl now and resigned myself to buying 7 bags of 30p potatoes from Morrison's this morning...along with a gazillion onions, carrots and apples
. (p.s., their lentils are far cheaper than ASDA but forgot to look for chickpeas!)

Hello Sian- I see you told that guy to read again, I thought his maths was not working out at all. Nooo I could never blame Jamie, I think he has done a lot for the country and food matters. Just surprised that battery eggs is the one thing that has stuck in the nations mind.
I wonder if they all buy organic chicken then??

What happened to weezl's omega-3s? :rotfl:
aless we've realised by including the seeds and making sure enough of the oil is unheated we can still meet the omega 3
I realised today you were doing star jumps on christmas eve! Were you jumping along to jingle bells?;) xxx

I love Jamie, I think he is totally right and I always buy free range, even when I had an expected 28 people round for pancakes, through gritted teeth admittedly!
I think the reason that free range eggs are so popular is from him though
What about barn eggs? A friend of mine who is a vet says the conditions are pretty good and there is less fighting than in free range onesGod is good, all the time

Well done artybear
Excellent thanks count too!
So, I made the carrot cake with the drizzly topping. 1/2 the original recipe
Cake
60g sugar
100ml veg oil
160g carrot, grated
100g raisins
Zest and juice of an orange (doing half an orange would have been hard!)
175 SR flour
1 tsp bicarb
2tsp garam masala
Made as per usual, except half in a lined loaf tin and half into bun tray, made 9 buns, cooked them for a little less time. When done I took them out and stabbed all over with a skewer, think some diagonally downwards ones on the sides would help too
Topping
65g sugar
1tsp garam masala
75 ml oil
50ml water
75 ml milk
Heat the water, garam masala and sugar until it reduces and starts to go golden coloured, stirring continuously. Add 50ml of the milk and keep stirring over a low heat until it thickens (about 10 mins!). When thicker, about the consistency of a white sauce take off the heat and keep stirring to cool. Add the oil and the remaining 25 ml milk when cooler and mix until combined. Pour over and spread out a little, it will run down the sides of the cake so this is now one to eat with a plate!
The absence of the oil from the cake is not a problem at all, the oil mixes in okay with the fudgy topping but needs the milk to help at the end to loosen it. If you were using powdered milk you could just make it up dilute beforehand. Topping was a bit of an experiment but think it went well, am pleased with the texture and taste of the cake too! You could use a caramel like this for other things too, like the pancakes if you wanted, can't imagine it costs too muchGod is good, all the time

Me too! I always stock up on their 30p fruit and veg.
Weezl- I'm afraid I have been v. lax with the recipe testing but I will definitely make sweetcorn soup and cereal bars next week!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
DP is highly amused as I have bought at least double the number of apples I normally buy for the month (4 bags plus 4 bramleys) so that we have enough to eat and enough for me to make some apple curd when I get home from work tomorrow. Hopefully boiling some innocent apples to death will help me to de-stress after what will doubtless be a god-awful day.
I'm also going to try one of the corned beef hash recipes from this thread this month, don't know whether I will actually eat it as I don't eat beef but I will certainly feed it to dp and may well try it if it looks yummy.
The thick onion tart is on the menu again for this month too and no doubt some of the cereal/apple bars.
You see Weezl, you're having a phenomenal impact on what people are eating and buying already.Sealed pot member 735

Spicy pea and apple soup, makes 2 batches, serves 4 each time but will need HM bread or a sarnie to fill hungry tummies
1 packet (250g) Leo marrowfat peas soaked and cooked as per packet instructions 28p
4 desertspoons pluspints milk powder
1 large Bramley apple weighing 290 ish grams 23p
desertspoon sugar
garam masala, garlic, salt and pepper
A quick question. I went into an ASDA this morning. It was quite an experience. Apart from that...I wanted quick soak mushy peas. I also saw these LEO peas that you mention. Can one make mushy peas with them? Or are they only suitable for soups etc?
(It was an experience....I couldn't believe how many were there in their jammie! I saw one woman in jamas and not sure if they were slippers or ugg style boots. THen a whole family, mother and kids in their jamas. I don't go to Liverpool much, was their to take DS to his rehearsal, just a short one today, so popped out to do the shopping. )[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
