HowlinWolf wrote: »WEETABIX LOAF SUGAR SAVINGS - just based on my own personal reductions I have no energy to search thread as it has been a bit of a day and not sure I know how.
using 125g of sugar per loaf would save a total of 130g of sugar per month, enough to make a whole other weetabix loaf.
using 100g of sugar per loaf plus 1 teaspoon (5g) to sprinkle over the top would save a total of 170g of sugar per month which is very nearly enough to make another two weetabix loaves!
I use 100g per loaf as i consider it very sweet anyway. I also use extra all spice in it- i haven't made it with garam masala yet, as i really like this version..nom nom.
Hope you rest well Weezl. xBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Well, I don't think we're all that odd! :-) I'm sure some of us are perfectly normal ;-)
Speak for yourself;):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Our Weezl clearly thinks I'm eccentric - but she likes me so all's well...:)

There could be a gut problem if bob and shirley are not used to eating beans and pulses plus other wholegrains. I am not trying to throw a spanner in the works but I do know that the LDS (mormons) who advocate storage of those things for lean times say you should begin eating them in normal times so your gut gets used to them. Stress about money or other things would increase the problem. what do the nutritionists/ health people on here think?
I was thinking more of the ability to digest these things properly rather than the more obvious one people normally associate with beans etc.:)0 -

Hi Weezl,
I'm working on the stock levels, and have tracked down most of the recipes in the planner, but I still need recipes for:- pasta carbonara
- pea and ham soup
- savoury oaty burgers
- spicy pea and apple soup
By the way, I have highlighted in red those entries in the GoogleDocs menu planner which are not possible at all, at least as written -- these, for some reason, all involve things beginning with "ch": no chickpeas, no chicken, and no chutney (because we're no longer buying cabbage and haven't got a replacement recipe, as far as I can tell).
I also have some questions:- How many servings do you get from one batch of bean pate?
- What weight of peanut butter do you need per person for "peanut butter and toast"? And for "peanut butter sandwiches"?
- How many servings from a batch of apple curd? And of chutney (assuming that the cabbage reappears)?
- I have assumed that the potato for the hash browns weights 500g and the onion 125g. Is this OK?
- Are we still using the original carrot cake recipe, or Ceridwen's sugarless one?
- I have reduced the fish in the risotto to 0.75 tin, leaving 0.25 tin for fish pate. With this, I have put 40g onion, 1 tsp lemon juice and 2 tsp oil. Would you like different figures?
Once we get ingredients and quantities for the remaining recipes, and resolve these outstanding queries, it should be quite quick to get the stock figures out. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

isn't there a line in that poem that about not having money for butter too? very appropriate for this thread.
ETA: had to google it to check, otherwise I'd be lying awake all night trying to remember the line
"and I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
and satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter"
better go tidy up the kitchen for the morning, night night all xweaving through the chaos...0 -
I made the honey raisin oat bars... where's da survey - is there one yet?
Anyhow.... very nice and even OH said they're ok (he often turns his nose up if I tell him it's a cheap recipe). But I have a very sweet tooth at the moment - think its all the stress - and decided they are better with extra sugar sprinkled on top
They don't taste majorly of honey... so next time might add some more honey in
I did a half amount and got 14 generous portions out of it
I'm going to have a bash at these tomorrow too so thank you for your comments. I'm going to halve the mixture too, but wasn't quite expecting to get 14 out of it  I'm going to be the size of a house at the end of this!
Reading this thread tonight has left me feeling all warm and fuzzy from the abundance of community spirit and well wishes contained within its pages. Keep up the good work all!!Money paid out from Topcashback so far= £105.89 :j

WHEN I AM AN OLD WOMAN I SHALL WEAR PURPLE
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
