Maybe raisins could be bought from some other store instead then? Would that maybe help?

Reason being = I think that stores are in process of phasing out using trans fats - so maybe one store still has them, but another store might have phased them out for that same product?

It is possible Lidl or Aldi might be trans fat free because some European and scandinavian countries have banned them. But I don't know as we haven't got Asda, Morrisons, Lidl or Aldi near.

    Hi Weezl,

Havent managed any of the recipes on here yet but just made your sag paneer, yum yum yum... I did cheat for a first attempt and got some ready made paneer off our Indian friend but otherwise it was all as your recipe. One question though I thought it tasted a bit bitter and OH thinks this may be because I only used normal Olive oil rather than " the tomatoey olive oil from the jar you drained to make the lentil thingy I posted earlier" do you think this is could be why? and any suggestions to maybe sweeten it up.

Also guess it is ok to freeze this ?

You guys are doing an amazing job.

I love the idea that you are working so hard at making it healthy, but...I have a but.

Thinking of the people I know who have financial issues and could be helped by something like this, none of them really cook from scratch. They all eat meat in every meal.

I'm not sure how you are going to attract the people who will most need this kind of plan if they are anything like the people I know.

In regards to meat and sunday roasts. My DH would not cope with pilchards as his main source of meat....he doesn't do fish and we generally have some kind of 'roast type' meal during the winter and bbq's in the summer.

I'm sure my children and I would happily eat the food on your plan, I'm quite sure my husband wouldn't.

But then - "you can take a horse to water but you cant make it drink" and I think that applies in this case. We CAN only put our project out there "on the table" (or the Web) in this case - but ultimately one simply cant make anyone do anything they dont want to (even if its for their own good - I sometimes think in cynical moments "especially if its for their own good").

but - in doing this - we will at least have provided the wherewithal - and then its up to them. Many people will take heed - and we simply cant start going off into wondering about those who choose not to.

avocet, when you're available for a bit of stock checking, here is the latest meal planner. There are some gaps, but I hoped the stock check might reveal some leftovers :)

Some things to factor in: I am hoping that 1kg of marrowfats will do 3 meals of risi e bisi ie 333g dry weight per meal.

I was also thinking of the pizza becoming 3 meals since currently each pizza is over 1000 cals which seems a bit much! Therefore assume we stretch that to 3 meals with the same quantities IYSWIM?

All the rest of the bread flour will be for bread. 1500g flour makes 4 loaves.

I am assuming 100g of rice or pasta per person per meal, and 250g potato if the meal contains it.

I am thinking of fortifying some of the recipes with milk powder or evaporated milk but will wait to see how much is used in the breakfast porridge first. (50g oats, 15g milk powder, 30 g raisins)

Hope all of that helps you in your task!

it freezes really well Maz :)

Hmmmn bit bitter? Is your cumin ok? Sometimes cumin goes bitter if the seeds have turned a teensy bit rancid... But the tomatoey oil (from a sundried tomato jar) would have counter balanced it a bit I think HTH xxx
