I was wondering whether you were checking up on calories etc for a days food? Making sure they were in the 'recommend amount'. I hope that makes sense

Hi Frankie, indeed it does make sense and is one of the reasons why Kaz's garibaldis will be a daily inclusion, as soon as we can finalise them :)

I *think* the main bulk of the nutrition maths (protein/ fat/ carbs/ cals per person per day) will come once we have a working menu plan all costed and tested. The reason essential fats have reared their ugly head so early is the lack of omega-3 required a major adjustment. The rest should not be too far off the mark, since Weezl has done something similar before in the 'Eat Healthily on 50p per Day' challenge. It's all about the blind faith! :rotfl:

I realise you already have a recipe in the "tweaking" but baby finally went to sleep this afternoon so DD and I decided do some baking and had a bash at tweaking the recipe I had found myself. Thught I would share what I did in case the quantities help developing the recipe that will be included in the plan.

    125g granulated sugar
    125ml rapeseed il
    Zest of 1 lemon
    150g raisins
    225g plain flour
    pinch of salt

Mix the sugar and oil until blended. Work in the remaining ingredients (it's easier to use your hands tbh.) Press into a greased rectangular tin - to about 1cm thick. Bake fr 30 mins at 180C. Cut into 25 pieces immediately then leave to cool before removing from the tin. To get the full raisin count, this would just mean quadrupling the other ingredients to get a mixture that doesn't crumble too much to be detrimental iyswim? But it's still a nice shortbread texture and DD loves them waaaaaay to much
Anyway, hope that might help a bit Kaz :)

Asked DH if he was up for it and he replied as long as there is a back up!! :(

Will add this to next weeks menu if thats ok. Im so excited that after looking at the plan and what I have in the cupboards I will only need to spend £17.92 for this weeks shopping so I dont want to have to buy pilchards just yet if thats ok.

Do you think if we kinda minced up the raisins in a food processor with the zest and juice of an orange we could contruct soemthing with a fruit filling a bit like a figgy roll?

Or do you think just make it with less fruit?

    :)

Errrrrrrm; for ease of making the biscuits, I think I would half the fruit and keep the other ingredients the same. This should be a lot more do-able. I don't like faffing around and it was a pain to roll as it was so crumbly.
I'm also bearing in mind that Shirley may not be used to cooking biscuits and may not have a blender. If we need to use a blender it could put her off. The plus side is that if we use less fruit then we can make more at a later date. I think it might work out cheaper per biscuit too :T.

I'll see what other replies there are now in case ISOM had better luck than I did.

ETA: Just read yours Boodle. Any idea on costings? (sorry have family arriving soon and I'm starving). I had thought of that as a possibility too but didn't know if it would yield less biscuits?
I'll check in when I get a chance.

Just had a quick look at the pasta puttanesca survey. I think thats pretty comprehensive.

The one query I have with this - or any other survey - is that I wonder whether we need a question right at the beginning along the lines of "Did you decide not to even try it - because you didnt like the sound of it?"

Or - am I getting it a bit wrong - and I could just whizz through all the recipes that apply to me (ie vegetarian) and just put in an answer on the "how often would you be prepared to eat x/y/z?" of 0 times per month.

I'm guessing that - for a beetroot soup survey for instance (in my personal "ugh" category - no matter what the recipe for it was like) that I would just scan straight through to the "how often would you eat it?" question and put 0 in reply to that - and leave all the other questions blank?

Not every one wants to make the same things, so they can answer as many or as little of the surveys that they wish, based on the recipes that they try - I'm not sure if I have explained that right :o
I have tried to make them a bit "vote for Joe" so that the stats are worked out better, and they dont take to long to complete :)
Sorry... I hope that make sense :o

Weezl... will you be putting the other surveys done on post 4 ??
There is a few more on post 1142 :o

Im back at work tomorrow, so, it may be a few more days before I can do anymore :)
