Zest of 1 orange
300g Raisins
550g plain flour
3tsp baking powder
100g white granulated sugar
150ml vegetable oil
100ml water
1/2 tsp salt

Method: Mix flour, sugar zest and bicarb together. Then add raisins. Slowly mix in the vegetable oil. Then gradually add the water. Mix to a dough consistency with hands. Roll into a small ball and place on a well oiled baking sheet. Flatten gently with fork (or squish with fingers like I did :rotfl:).

done in 13 minutes (they were on a baking sheet).

try slicing or rolling out and cutting with biscuit cutters?

I've had a go at halving it and introducing Kaz's suggested tweaks, hope I've done it right Kaz :)
this will still make 50-60 biscuits ISOM so you may want to halve it again, I'm not sure how many shelves in your oven

Thanks Weezl, you beat me to it! When I thought of the oranges and the other amounts, I thought it might be easier to split in 2.
ISOM, you may find it gives a better biscuit if you roll them and cut them. I feel they're a bit too thick. It'll make them look bigger too which is more man/teenager friendly.
Don't forget to wash the oranges.
If the flour doesn't look/feel right, feel free to add less or more as necessary.
I've 4 small people to test them on today!

Baked Bean Curry adapted from netmums recipe
• 1 can tomatoes 33
• 2 tins of baked beans 58
• half tsp chilli
• 2 tsp mustard
• 2 tsp garam masala
• 320g onion, sliced 13p
• 2 tsp garlic paste
Put onions, garlic, chillis, and spices in a pan with a drop of oil, and cook til soft.
Add tomatoes and cook for a few minutes, until reduced down to a thicker sauce.
Add baked beans and cook for a few more minutes til all cooked, hot throughout and well mixed.
Season to taste.
Serve with rice

NEEDS A TESTER OR TWO :)

OK - I'm up for this. I haven't been able to test anything yet :o. But we're planning curry tonight and have all the ingredients in for this so I'll give it a go :)

Hmm except I have mustard powder, not mustard. Shall I just make up some mustard and use that?

righty ho :) if you did buy the pork mince, I'd love to see if half the pack (250g) would do burgers for a family of 4 (or more is a bonus!) for 2 meals ie 8 servings(eek) you are also allowed breadcrumbs, 1 egg if needed, seasonings as stated above, 320g of apple, 320g of onion, but you may not want all of that, it's lots more than Delia :) Use buttery spread if you like for butter, but oil is more frugal if you think the recipe can cope :)

I'm aware this is a big stretch since it's only 60% the meat content of delia :o and so am also giving you 150g of cooking bacon, since this will deliver more taste 'bang for it's buck'. Sorry about the low meat quantities, but it's more meat that in a smartprice sausage and they manage to make them taste meaty?! :)

Also, when testing on hungry housemates, could you allow 250g potato, and 80g of 2 other veggies to go with the burgers and see how filling people think it is?

So to confirm, to feed 4 people for a meal
125g pork mince
75g Bacon
Breadcrumbs
Half an egg if required
Oil and seasoning
160g apple
160g onion

250g potato (per person?)
80g 2 other veggies

Will give it a go :)

"Do the omega 3 fats in linseeds become oxidised when linseeds are used in baking, such as in bread? From a nutritionist in Canada:

Here has been considerable controversy about the stability of flaxseed due to the high content of highly unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids. Flaxseed appears more stable than would be expected considering its n-3 content. Ratnayake showed no deterioration after 44 weeks of storage at room temp. However, it is suggested that flax seed be stored in the refrigerator or freezer for maximum protection.

Ratnakye also showed that there was no significant effect on n-3 content or POV (peroxide value) after an hour of cooking at 350 degrees F. for either whole or ground seeds. Cunnane et al had similar results. The bottom line is that baking at moderate temperatures appears safe for both ground and whole flax seed

This was in response to my pm last night. I had considered adding some linseeds to the cookies. I had some in but didn't try it.

I've done the last of the batch I made now. I had rolled it up and put it in the fridge overnight.
Verdict, awful to chop. Tried rolling it out. Very crumbly and kept breaking up.
IMO this definately needs waaaaaay more body and less fruit! I can't see how to make a nice tidy biscuit with it otherwise.
I will update later with the verdict of my 4 small testers but lets just say, the biscuits were a hit!
