  • I think it is the extent to which they were 'supported'. There was no uniformity in the level of support provided to the pupils in the school.

Some schools in Lisburn ran after school sessions so that the Unions couldn't criticise for anything occurring during school hours.

I think it depends on the parents within the school and their expectations of those schools and the pressure they could exert. The history of the individual primaries is that many have a record of pupils achieving and moving to grammars in the locality - the parents of P7 kids may have chosen the school on this basis.

Fortunately in my daughter's school all pupils were doing a test - so no pupil was left out when other's were doing tests.
  • Confused again :embarasse

How are these percentile ranks calculated?

You are so right Josie. Most primary schools in the Banbridge area coached and trained their pupils the same way as they did for the 11 plus. Unfortunately my daughter goes to the only school which didn't.

The test kids at her school got one hour, after school, per week and even that was hit and miss. The result is that the school's scores have been disastrous with only one 'A' grade pupil that I have heard about.

My daughter got 101 and was devastated, especially as she has been an 'A' pupil all her school life including the recent standardised test trials which gave her a reading age of 15.

She had her heart set on Banbridge Academy but that is now out of reach and we are trying to pick up the pieces in all senses.

Some great information in here folks, thanks for that:T First son is primary 6 and we will be going through this nightmare next year:eek: not looking forward to it at all:o He has started some practice tests in school in the past few weeks, but it looks like I'm going to have a few summer projects with him over the holidays with some practice papers:o The school he is at seem to have as much information on the tests as we do at present:o which is practically none.

God bless the folks on the hill (notably SF) for seriously foooking up primary 7 selection:mad:

I hope all your off spring get into their desired schools and come through this nightmare emotionally unscathed, the 11 plus was not great, but it seemed a hell of a lot clearer than the current process.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

just back from seeing our school principal, our child got 106, which he says is equivalent to an A ... based on the proportion of children who sat the exams etc, so she should have no bother getting into her first place school BRA - his words not mine!!!
  • If Banbridge Academy takes all it's B1s then don't give up hope as I think that 101 is equivalent to old stile B1. See comment above re 106 being an A which I agree with.
  • My son got 95, can anyone confirm if this is a low B2, C or C1. We have heard so many different versions.:(

Based on the AQE advice a score of 96 and below compares (as a rough guide) to B2 and below. Baring in mind that 97-103 compares roughly to B1 and strong B2's I think you can safely say that 96 is comparative to a B2.

95 is still a good score and I would strongly suggest you stick to your prefered Schools when making your selections with Primary Head.

    Good Luck

The thought is much appreciated - unfortunately Academy is well oversubscribed and only took six B1 kids last year.

Sorry should have said that 95 is comparative to a B2 (nudging towards strong B2). Again I would add that these are AQE comparative guides and I guess AQE will be vearing on the side of caution. So I think a lot of parents could be plesently surprised come May. One thing for sure is that if you don't apply you won't get in..... The clearing system can work it all out, so don't be to influenced by Primary Heads, because they are in the same position as us, trying to equate what a score actually means.
