For anyone interested the fees are £2098. You get £1000 discount in year 8 and year 9 if you have a quintile 1 and £500 discount if you are quintile 2. Anyone else pays the £2098 and if you happen to play an instrument and want tuition then you can say goodbye to £300 per year for that.
So if you get a bursary you still have to pay over £1000??0 -
Yes you do NI Mum. In fairness though at least Campbell are upfront about their fees. Inst is about £850 but you don't hear about that.0

The problem is the AQE scores are new and don't equate to the old grades. Schools will select scores from the highest down, simple as that. From what I've seen today anything over 100 is good and anything in quintile 2 is very good, few got quintile 1 (very bright kids). Disasterous test, now kids not only get a the bottom grade but they can be shown as the lowest scores in their school.0

I would have thought that speaking to other parents today would have given some enlightenment but I'm as lost as ever! Some seem to think that my daughters score will definitely secure a grammar place, but in fairness, their childrens scores were higher and I really wouldn't want to raise my own childs hopes, ARRRGHH!
Belf_mum_of_3, I would like to think that the system next year would be clearer than this hell, when it comes down to it, you can't really count on practice test scores and how nerves will effect your child on the actual day of the exams etc, but maybe thats just my own bitter experience talking!Total debt £20,000 Northern Rock loan:eek:

Hi P7 you say few got quintile 1 but surely as there were roughly 7000 kids sitting the AQE the top 20% are in the top quintile and each other quintile also contains 20% which would mean that there are roughly 1400 kids in each of the quintiles.Regards

I have been reading all your different replies and all I can say thank goodness none of my kids had to go through that (I thought 11+ was bad enough). For those of you whose kids are in the bottom tier and don't get into grammer school don't worry its not the end of the world they may be happier in a High School. Count your blessings they are healthy.
I have a 21 yr old whose 2nd year medicial exams start tomorrow and he informed me this morning @ 9.30 he had spent all night in library, had just come home to get a shower and was back off to library again. Roll on Thursday when his exams finish.........0 -
I do have to say that the whole process has been quite smooth. The parents who took the time to follow the AQE directions and visit School Open Evenings for all latest information from the time that it became obvious that Ms Ruin was totally out of her depth and was stumbling from one incompetance to another were generally able to negotiate the process without too many problems. My son's headmaster took the P7s after school for practice tests and for that I'm very grateful. My son did the AQE in Grosvenor and their teaching staff gave up 3 Saturday mornings to ensure everything went smoothly, which it did. The only problem now is that we are awaiting the scramble for places, but nothing new here as that happened every year with the old 11+.Regards

I think you have a point, vido. I really can't complain about my childs school and it's approach to the whole 'new' system. In reality, unless your child was lucky enough to gain a very high score, it is just going to be a very long waiting game until May 28th, as it would have been under the old 11 + if your child was borderline.Total debt £20,000 Northern Rock loan:eek:

I have read all the comments and have heard that the top score achieved in the AQE test was 128 apparently this was lower than anticipated and they are now thinking that the top pass mark of 145 was set to high therefore all the children who were in the second quintile have quite possibly achieved the equivalent to an A in the old system. My child achieved a score of 107 so if that is the case it certainly gives me some hope of getting a place in a grammer school.0
