Thanks rolo1 - I did reassure her that her result was something to be proud of but she expected her result to be higher due to her scores at school. A few parents I have spoke to have also commented that they didn't think the score reflected their child's performance in school and with practice tests. This is an awful position for us all to be in. Roll on May 28th to see if it was good enough for Grosvenor!0

Lisburn Dad - thanks for your useful post.
Joanne78, we are hoping for Grosvenor too. What were the scores like generally in your child's school?0 -
It seems kids are disappointed with a score in the early 100s as it's so far from the top score of 145. I haven't heard of anyone getting anywhere near that. I'd say anything over 100 is a very good score, even in the 90s should be enough for some grammar schools.0

Ex-spendaholic the scores I've heard are 106, 102 and 101. Only 14 children took the exam from my daughter's school. What scores are at your school?
I really hope it's good enough ni-mum. Wish it was back to the days of E (eligible) or N (non-eligibile) ---- so much easier!!!!0 -
On the radio yesterday Maggie Taggart said the highest achieved was 130.
In my daughter's school about 65% seem to be bunched in the 116-119 bracket (she is in this) and the lowest is 93.
Someone on this thread was enquiring re: Grosvenor.
Grosvenor's past record over the last couple of years is as follows. They can admit 155 students.
In 2007, 145 As, 6 B1s, 1 B2 and the others on special provision.
In 2008, 152 As and the others on special circumstances/provision.
In 2009, 136 As, 16 Bs and the others on special circumstances/provision0 -
Joanne, my son got 104. Like you there was shock, upset etc in our house as he had been doing really well in the practice papers.
However with his friends (boys) we have heard 97, 99, 100, 101, 102, 103. With the girls (which I expected to be higher) I've heard 90, 95, 101. I'll point out at this stage that the kids I'm referring to were all doing really well in practice papers and all expected a higher mark. I've also heard of a few in the 80s. There are 70 P7s in our school and I reckon about 10 didn't take it.
The best 2 marks I've heard so far in our school are both boys wanting Grosvenor and they are 115 and 127. Both these boys have been exceptional in school with reading ages off the scale apparently.
This really is an awful situation. I'm continually asking my son about other people's marks and feel half relieved if they have got less. That is a horrible way to think but when you want a place in Grosvenor for your child its hard not to think that way.0 -
Many thanks for all the useful informative posts since my rubbish one! Sorry about that. Best of luck to all for May. Lets hope its all a bit clearer this time next year.0

At least next year Willyk when you get a random score arrive on your doorstep you'll have some kind of idea of what it all means in the grand scheme of things unlike most of us who didn't know whether to celebrate or jump off the Albert Bridge yesterday morning. Also you'll have this year's papers as a guide to what to expect. This year's kids really went in blind unfortunately.0

Ex-spendaholic - I totally agree with you. I'm feeling exactly the same, asking about my daughter's friends marks but the pressure is unreal. I'm trying my best to keep her out of it but she is quite competitive and conscientious so she's also fretting. I have appt with her headmistress on Tuesday morning to complete the transfer form and I really hope she can shed a light!!
Good luck to your son, I hope he is successful in getting in.0 -
Its just awful isn't it? I keep hearing my son on the phone saying "I beat you by 1 point" etc etc. I'm saying to him that he shouldn't be saying that but its probably my fault as I'm obsessed with what his friends have got as they are the competition now unfortunately.
Its all I can do not to draw up a spreadsheet with their scores and first preference schools. :rotfl:If we'd have been in the old system we would have known that a Grade A was the norm for Grosvenor but you may slip in with a B1 and that if you didn't have that you applied for the likes of Wellington.
I'm also eagerly trying to find out what the scores were like in other East Belfast schools so that I can weigh up the chances of Grosvenor. Good luck to your daughter also, maybe they'll meet up in September and reminisce about their paranoid, insane parents. :rotfl:0
