My daughter's choices are Grosvenor or Strathearn, if no luck then she wants Ashfield. She's not giving herself many options. I went to Strathearn so I don't mind either of her 1st 2 options. Strathearn might be easier for her to get into.
What other schools has your son chosen?0 -
His other choices are Campbell, Methody, Wellington. We were all very impressed with Campbell but can look forward to fees of £2098 per year plus £300 for his music.
We liked Methody too and may look to get him to consider it instead. Wellington was just ok but more logistically viable for him to get to as there is a dedicated bus.
I'll be honest and say that we have all always been fixed on Grosvenor and always assumed he would get in there. Dear knows what will happen now.
Would your daughter not put Bloomfield as 3rd choice rather than Ashfield?0 -
Joanne - From looking at last 3 years scores definitely Strathearn - they have taken some lower scores than As.
The mixed sex Grammars tend to be heavily over subscribed and Grosvenor is strictly rank order on scores.
It is horrible, like a mad dash to the finish with all kids in competition with each other in such a 'base' way. Fortunately my daughter is oblivious to all of this as are her friends - but the parents aren't.
Just as a matter of interest one of my friend's kids did both GL and AQE. Got an A in GL and 98 in AQE - so the comparisons aren't there. I wonder how Victoria who are accepting both will be able to make a valid comparison.0 -
Ex Spendaholic - Methody are going strictly rank order like Grosvenor.
Wellington have a wider range of grade intakes over the last 3 years. As do Campbell however they have a new and progressive Principal who is looking to address some of the past issues with the school.
I was told on the grapevine by someone who teaches in a south belfast primary school that Methody are applying further bands of 5 marks within the quintiles (thus making competition in these bands even tighter) - check it out on their admissions page on the website and they seem to be fairly confident that for them they won't be going to much out of top quintile.
As with everything though take it with a pinch of salt...no-one knows until parents and their kids start to decide where to apply....0 -

Do you know what time this was on? I'm trying to find it on iplayer.0 -
ni mum - tried to post the link but it won't let me.
Look for Saturday Magazine in BBC Northern - it is on the iplayer- it is a 2 hour programme but I think if you scroll through it is about one hour 2 minutes in....
hope you can find it....0 -

Great thanks.0 -
Thanks JosieJo. I suppose I'm clutching at Methody as it has 280ish places as opposed to Grosvenor's 155 and Wellington's 110. Methody have taken a wide range of grades in some years.
I'd love to see that Maggie Taggart thing. There really has been a scarcity of media coverage on this. I think its going to take over my life between now and the end of May. :eek:0 -
