The Quintiles are the percentage of children achieving the scores!, i.e. the top 20% of results in the 1st quintile, the next 20% in the 2nd so the above example should have 4 children in each quintile. However, what I find amazing is that the AQE notice before the tests suggested that they anticipated the 1st 20% of children achieving a score of 113+ and that didnt change when the results arrived (even though the top result was apparently only 128). Also I doubt they have factored into their equation that there will be quite a number of children who sat both tests and with the majority of GL scores being higher those children will use that route, throwing their quintiles out completely!
What you need to realise is that 113 is only an indicater. Its a bit like saying the top 20% of the children will get an A. They would then take the top 20% results and give them an A. Therefore 20% of kids scored 113 or over0 -

But the 1st letter did state that their suggested score range would change when they knew the results and it didnt!0 -

As for the quintiles - the mark recorded is basically a rank and not the actual score in the test. Thats how they could predict it before hand.
Dark horse has someone rattled your cage, there is no need to be so rude, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, obviously you have a child with a June birthday!!!!!! Take a chill pill!0 -
All this trying to work out the method that was used will drive us nuts. I think we would be better trying to get the host schools to release the scores that were achieved in their test centres, as apparently they already know them. At least that way we would have a better idea of the results for our own areas.0

Im just a spectator. You fail the notice the more subtle comments from the parents with older kids. The majority of the comments here are from parents with kids scores over 100 who really have nothing to worry about0 -
my twins born in april 1 got 104 and 1 97 still no need to be rude ......0

What is all this talk of age standardisation all about anyway, the 11 plus was always age standardised and no-one seemed to mind or care but now that the actual scores are known everyone seems to be blaming that. Surely it is possible for a younger child to get a good score on merit? All this talk makes younger children feel that they didn'd do well but got a leg up to the top just because they are young.0
