Morning Everyone, I have been a lurker for a long time but decided to say Hello.

I suspect that I am the parent that Vido is talking about. ;)
Congratulations to you all, whose children got into the school they wanted to attend. In our house, on saturday there was disapointment alround but I am still hoping to possibly transfer if he keeps his head down and works hard over the next year or so....

I did listen when the principil of Grovenor when he said to put the school of your choice down regardless of score but we always felt that if our son was to get into a grammar school it would be by the skin of his teeth and as Grovenor had in the past turned away some Bs we thought he would have had no chance, also when we were discussing this with the primary school principil we were discouraged from putting Grovenor on the form in favor of Wellington as they in the past had accepted lower Grades.

I found out from Wellington that the actual cut off was 93 and that they will keep the childrens names on record.

Vido.... I'm hoping the children are enjoying themselves, I'm sure they are.

I dread to think what they may be getting up to!! (Madmags??? You must explain that to me next time we meet!)

As you know we were concerned about your lad all weekend and had hoped and prayed that he would have been successful at Wellington - he was so close.

I know you may have lost this immediate battle, but not the war. Ex Spendaholic is right in her advice. Hassle them VPs.

Also didn't know the record of the secondary school in question. I had thought it was better than the other alternative, but maybe not.

(Maybe see you at the school gates tomorrow....)
    Regards

Thats gr8! I'm sure he was pleased! Do you mind me asking if they stated in their letter that secondary criteria was applied? My sons wee friend got 101 and didn't get in. He was a bit disappointed!
  • Lisburn mum 2, i'm in the same boat as you - we always are saying we can't afford the luxury of a broken tooth, yet aren't 'poor' enough to qualify for help with anything! We will find a way to fund all these things, i wonder if there's a market for a slightly used kidney, only one careful lady owner?? I wasn't going to bother filling in the transport form as we definitely wil have to pay - I was just going to give my child the fare each morning or on good days she could walk home or bully her father into dropping her off etc.
Good luck Madmags - we really didn't think our daughter would have gotten her 1st choice, so keep ploughing on.

A new body has been set up to help children turned down by secondary or grammar schools.
The Exceptional Circumstances Board will deal with vulnerable or traumatised children.

Hi neveranymoney, we are not bothering with the form either! I contacted Ulsterbus and you can buy a 10, 20 or 40 journey smartlink card (not sure if there is one in Belfast) for me it will be cheaper to buy a 40 journey ticket at £36.00 and you have up to one year to use it up, I think between us being able to drop her off or pick her up some days this should do us 2 months, giving her money each journey would cost a fortune! If she should loose it, it can be replaced as it is electronic.

Feel bad moaning because we are so delighted that she got into her chosen school, but as with this whole process everything seems very unfair. I have also written to my MP, but will probably get a courteous thanks but cant help you reply.

Can the smartlink card be used on the school buses that translink run to various schools or is it for the regular ulsterbus services?

Hi, I am not 100% sure, but I as far as I know it can be used for any, the guy in ulsterbus just asked me where was the boarding point and getting off point so that he could work out the price of the card. It does not state on the card any of this information so if anyone finds it they have no idea where it can be used, if you loose it and inform Ulsterbus they cancel it and reissue you with a new card.
