My son's primary school has the papers but I haven't seen them. I was told by a classroom assistant who said that the school had been on the right track in preparing the children this year. From what I gather they will be using them as mock papers. So if you know anybody doing the test this year the chances are they will be using the papers in the primary schools.

Hello and welcome to Violinski and Facingthefuture. :)

I can't take this any more, I seriously am ready to explode with it all. If someone could give me an anaesthetic now so that I didn't wake until Saturday I honestly think I'd take it.

I had been feeling very positive of late having had a conversation with our first choice school and also with hearing the various rumours about it eg. "every one who listed it as first choice got in", "people with higher scores didn't apply so they ended up taking lower scores" etc etc.

Well this morning I was talking to a guy who told me that his nephew who had put down Grosvenor, Wellington, Regent and Nendrum (not sure in which order) with a score of 99 (may have been 95 but it was 1 or other of those) got a call last week saying that he hadn't been placed in any of those schools and they were asked to nominate somewhere else. I didn't hear where they asked for then as I was close to passing out. I am now really scared that we will end up with Inst or Campbell. Before anyone has a go, I'm not dissing either of those but they just aren't what we want. :( I'm beginning to think there will be no tie buying on Saturday but I'll be working on an appeal.

Sorry I don't want to scaremonger anyone and I know that there are so many rumours about at the minute that they should all be taken with a pinch of salt.
  • Oh Ex-Spendaholic, come sit down in misery corner with me. I've spent the evening eating everything the !!!!!!! Tesco man brought and if there was any hard liquor in the house, I'd be getting tucked into that too! My smallest pair of jeans are never not going to give me muffin top at this rate. Tell me more of this appeal process. I thought you could only appeal if the school hadn't followed the criteria set? I have no confidence at all in the whole bleddy set up, I can remember naively poo pooing the idea of paying for a remark as this being the first guinea pig year, the powers that be would have the whole system watertight, PAH! I'll still be buying a tie, I can't let the daughter think I'm disappointed and wouldn't want to raise her hopes that she might get in.

I've no idea if there is an appeal process to be honest. I am just panicing now that Saturday could be quite a grim day (as 6 Feb was) and that I'll be on doorsteps of certain schools on Monday. :(
  • Some schools have accepted appeals in the past, I wonder what went wrong, that the appeal was then given in favour of the child? Worth looking into.

Well less than 59 hours till my post man comes. Can you believe it. What does the future hold beyond 29 May 2010.

    Joy and peace to all......

Kingston, I think you have misunderstood my post, I certainly wasn't calling anyone ignorant and I am sorry if you were offended. I was merely pointing out that we need to ask for grades and scores as this will be the only fair way of allocating places. If we go back to the old grades system then schools can hide giving out places to preferred kids with the same grade but not the same score. As a parent with a child about to go through this whole process in a years time and one that has just come through it, I for one would like scores and grades and I would like schools to stop trying to please both the minister of education and people in favour of academic selection by giving out a percentage of scores on other criteria. They need to go one way or another and not sit on the fence. You lot in the Belfast area don't know how lucky you are to have such a selection of good schools. In our area we have 2 schools and only 245 places to go round so the competition is fierce. It has already been leaked that our local grammar is not taking any score under 104.

I've been thinking about Saturday all day every day for weeks now, but last night the dreams started, I woke this morning feeling like I hadn't slept, probably doesn't help reading the forum on my iphone in bed before I go to sleep!!

Last night the dream was I was in my grandparents old house that they haven't lived in for at least 10 years and the postman delivered the results at 7:50am, we got into our 3rd place school!

After having to wait until 11:45 on 6th February to see the postman drive past my house without stopping to deliver AQE results, then sending husband out to chase him (I couldn't go myself as I wasn't dressed yet in fear of being in the shower when the letter arrived!), the plan for Saturday is I'm collecting the letter at 6:30am in my local sorting office (early start to be up shower, hair & make-up done so I don't scare the postmen!!), so don't know why the grandparents old house came into the dream and why 7:50 in the morning, maybe I sleep in - that would be a disaster as I have to be at sorting office by 7am at the latest!!

As for getting a place in our 3rd place school, I'd be delighted, but realistically believe that we will get into our 4th place school which is a high school which has a good reputation - I haven't received a call from the board so at least we should have got that!!

There are 3 people in my sons class all with the same score, 2 with the same surname (yes alphabetical order was one of the entrance criteria if couldn't separate on anything else!), all with one particular grammar school (our 3rd place school) shared in the choices amongst the 3 of them, so it will be interesting to see if any or none of them gain a place at it, one has an older sibling at school but according to acceptance criteria thats the same as being the eldest in the family.

I've butterflies in my stomach every time I think about it, I'm probably responsible for at least 20 of the hits on this site each day!!

Can't promise to post on here too early on Saturday, it may be a case of going back to bed when we get back from sorting office!

    Good luck everyone x
  • Yes there is an appeals process. You have until some date in Aug and basically it has to be proven that the school has not properly followed their set criteria.

Stanjnr, I've been having the dreams on and off since 6 February but the past few weeks I've had one every night. I have opened that letter so many times now. :rotfl: I was wondering about you today actually (you always stick in my mind as the person who was brave enough to go for the remark).
