what one food thing couldn't/wouldn't you compromise on- when it came to the worst?

Now there's a difficult question! I've gone for the fruit option as I love my fresh fruit, particularly apples, and would find it very difficult to cope without at least one piece a day.
Free range eggs and meat are very important to me, too, but if I was really pushed I could cut both out of my diet without, and would do if the alternative was cage-reared meat and eggs.
My one real non-negotiable isn't on your list, though - I would have to have fair trade coffee. I love coffee and couldn't do without it, but I will only buy fair trade as I know that, however bad my situation is, the people growing the coffee need the money far more than I do.
There's always one person who has to be awkward and pick something that's not on the list, isn't there?Back after a very long break!0 -
i can downgrade on most things and if times are tight we eat less meat but i refuse to buy anything less than free range eggs and if i can get the xl organic free range m&s ones even better.
however the other thing i'd try to get is the high quality meat, but if not then less meat and try and use ones i can bulk, ie mince, or make a chorizo tomato and bean casserole as you need very little chorizo in comparison to everything else.

I voted for special diet as I can't have dairy. Which means I have to have certain brands of items (vegan marg, for example), avoid a lot of processed foods, etc. I will compromise on most other things when absolutely necessary, although fresh fruit and veg would be the second last thing to go.0

Weezl, I clicked 'no processed' foods. I regard intensively produced meat and eggs as processed food. Fruit and veg are unprocessed so that's covered too.0

I voted for the fruit option. If I couldn't afford organic eggs and meat I wouldn't buy any. Healthwise we could go without these forever, really, but my family's health would suffer without fresh fruit.0

it was a toss up between the meat and the FR eggs for me. But if it was dire straights I can picture me in MrS's and still not being able to pick up the value chicken or even normal range chicken. I have to have at least FR and as such we don't have it often. Beef I'm not so fussy over, but won't pick basics. Sausages - I'd love to have better quality ones but the kids won't eat them
We don;t eat that many eggs so only really used in baking and the odd fry up. At a push I could use cheaper, but I'd prefer to use less and still FR.
Clear as mud??

well i found this quite difficult
because I am one of the people who has a child with special dietry requirements, so that has to come 1st, and she cannot have anything processed,
but i wouldnt comprimise on toilet paper, coffee, olive spread & eggs either
dont eat meat so not an issue, no sweet tooth so again doesnt apply
and we eat enough F&V to sink ships anyways0 -
I also voted free range eggs.I am veggie so I don't have to worry about buying meat and I am also not bothered about brands,I am quite happy to compromise on most things.0

Free range eggs for me. Rather go without than buy battery eggs. I would go vegan first. I gave up meat ages ago but I also like branded items such as Marmite and President butter.
Continually heartwarmed on here regarding everyone's help to those struggling.0
