Interesting thread!
I voted for meat at most meals, purely because I would fear a family revolt from the meat loving sons and OH! If I still included meat a lot, they probably wouldn't notice the change in diet. If I didn't, they certainly would!!
Looking forward to seeing the menu plan!0 -
many many thanks for this, I'm stunned that the eggs are winning! I felt like the chiefest hard thing people talked about when I did my 50p a day challenge was lack of meat for their DHs and sons mostly, and lack of fresh fruit. But this is good. Much easier to reduce the egg content than to keep meat every evening/ have fresh fruit every day. I can get it so there's fresh fruit at least 2/3rds of the days at the moment, with 80p per person per day (of 7 total Fand V portions)
please keep voting, I'd like to write something that helps the widest number of and types of people...

Can't vote!! I don't have any 'non-negotiables' if the poo hit the fan here there is nothing we couldn't give up, compromise on or substitute!Slightly bitter0

Hi Weezl - sorry but I can't use any of those buttons. The one thing I can't, never have, and never will compromise on is Lurpak slightly salted butter! Everything else, I'm prepared to forego, substitute etc. But not that.

I agree, but whilst there was still an element of choice it would be FR eggs all the way in reduced quantities.
and I would rather have quality vegetarian, than 'cheap' meat.
Soappie - we tried the Lidl equiv this month and ended up baking with it. The spreadable Lurpak is on offer in the Co-op at £2 for a big pack.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Free range eggs would be a priority for me. As it happens, I keep my own very happy hens, but if I did not, I would rather do without eggs, and food containing them, than buy eggs which were not free range.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

I couldn't do without FR Eggs - I make my own sweets and treats if money is tight which requires eggs.
DD loves her eggs to, she'd have a boiled egg for breakfast everyday if I let her.
It's also an animal welfare, I don't even like the thought of barn eggs.
I know money is really tight if I don't buy eggs.Proud to be dealing with my debts

Wow I was really surprised by this one! I clicked for free range eggs and they seem to be the top answer too - I hadn't expected it but it really pleases me that so many of you feel the same way as me about caged chickens (or any animal tbh). Well done all :T0

Hi Weezl - thanks for this - makes for good reading!
I've voted for no processed food.We (just OH and I) could live very comfortably without meat and eggs if really necessary, and could if absolutely unavoidable eat frozen/tinned fruit and veg and definately/hopefully still get our 5/6/7/8 a day (though I'd rather not!!)
Branded foods (Marmiteand toilet rolls mainly)I still see as a luxury and buy them with a modicum of guilt....but would definately have to lose them from the shopping list come the revolution/12 grand tax bill:eek:
I don't eat sweet treats and snacks - but Benthosboy loves them so I make them all the time. I guess his vote may be different:rotfl:"...I, being poor, have only my dreams;

I am allergic to onions, so it really cuts down on the recipes I can use "at cost", and makes processed food pretty impossible (which is fine by me, as I'd rather cook fresh stuff). We have been vegan in the past, and so would not mind meatless/eggfree meals at all, as long as we could use non-dairy "milks" where appropriate (cow's milk is VILE when you haven't drunk any in a few years)0
