I phoned to cancel our petplan today (due for renewal at the end of the week) & managed to hold it together. Then I called the kennels as he was booked in for our summer holiday & I fell apart, she said she was sorry & I just burst into tears & had to get off the phone.
My 3 year old came over to me & said "Mummy don't be sad I will be your best friend today"
It is going to be a long lonely night tonight as OH is working away (he is staying with my Mum) & Chester always shared our bed too.
I did not sleep well last night but remember thinking that Chester will be running around somewhere with his pal Smudge who was PTS last year...0 -
I am sorry to hear about Chester, its one of the hardest things to come to terms with, our pets are by our sides all the time, so its doubly hard when they have ot leave us. I am sat here shedding a few tears for you.
Hugs Chris n TJ
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry to hear your news.. I'm in tears reading this as we had our beloved Milo a doberman x put to sleep 2 days ago....He was ill on The thursday, saw a vet on friday who said apart from a temperature he was fine, come saturday evening we took him back to the vets and she discovered he had a tumour that was affecting his heart and lungs and we had to make the horrible but best him decision to put him out of his misery..
I'm glad you got the chance to say a proper goodbye...I'm sure like you everywhere you turn you are reminded of him, all the little things they did etc..
My grandaughter who is 4 and is at our house 3 days a week took it much better than i expected..She even said to me that she would look after me as i was upset...I'm sure your girls will be ok aswell..we are going to be looking for Milo's star next time she is here and it is dark..( we have a Gertie's star for the guinea pig that died on christmas day 2008)
All the best to you and your family..
Take care

Thanks so much for this. I have heard of "Rainbow Bridge" on the forum but never seen it....I cried. I also copied it over to FB where OH has put an album of Chester.
Thanks to everyone for your kind wishes.
Adviceforall - so sorry to hear about your loss. You are right on all counts, we were so lucky getting the time to say goodbye and also there are so many memories in the house of him.
Hethmar - there are so many sad losses on here at the moment. I know in the weeks leading up to now I have read many a thread & ended up in tears knowing it would be us in the not too distant future.0 -

Well it is just over a week since we had Chester PTS, still missing him terribly & keep thinking I saw him out of the corner of my eye. I guess I am just so used to having him around.
I came on to the thread to tell you about my wonderful daughter. Our neighbours 3 year old Grandaughter was peering through the gap looking for Chester (she usually gives him a biscuit), here is the conversation she had with my 3 year old....
NGD - Where is Chester?
DD - We don't have Chester any more
NGD - Why not?
DD - Chester was very old & ill, so we took him to the vets for an operation, he had a special injection that stopped him breathing & we don't have him any more.
NGD - Why?
DD - Because he was old & in pain, we took him to the vets. We do miss him.
I think what I have said to her has sunk in & made sense to her. It was so sweet listening to her trying to explain why.
edit to add - the only bit she got wrong was the operation.
Thanks for all your support guys. x0 -
