klaus ferdinand hemfling is a well known and wonderful classisist DRESSAGE rider...please understand there is classical dressage and COMPETITION dressage, and many shades of grey between. To tar us all with the same brush is neither accurate not helpful to the anti rollkur/blue tongue debate. In factthe most vehement drivers of anti rollkur, starting the petitions etc are......classical dressage riders!

this is classical dressage Hempfling style. I find it utterly stunning (mch as I think blu hors matine's perfomance is smashing, hempfling is, personally, more in the style to which I aspire. Sometimes, classisists ride too, though....hemfling riding his little chestnut...inteerting because the chestnut is small, is amazing, they ride tack free, with the rest of the herd riding with them. I ride with other horses loose, but I'm afraid when I do that its NEVER tack free...sometimes just a head collar , but rarely)

nonsense. a foal gamboling and frolicing doesn't have a great big oaf sat on its back and a load of tackle all over it or require curb bits or spurs. what people will come up with to justify their cruel hobbies!
You're not allowed spurs (or whips) during dressage IIRC.
What level of tack and schooling would you call acceptable out of interest, ninky? They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

yes you are. You are not allowed a whip in the ring. The link of blue horse matine clearly shows spurs, which are I beluieve requisite. However neither need nor should be punitive...
edit: I think you can ride in dummy spurs though...there are regs about what shanks too, IIRC. I used to have dummies as a kid, and actually, they focus the mind. DH's lower leg is now stable and controlled enough to start work in dummy spurs. The riders for whom spurs are part of the outfit are of a standard, whether I like it or not, where they are able to control their lower legs.
Monty Roberts ...who many ''kind'' horse people like also rides in spurs. His are made of rubber. I have never located a pair of those, but would like to try them.0 -

personally, i think none. i'm not a saint and i have enjoyed going for a ride once or twice. but if i think about it rationally it is not morally justifiable. i'm sure there were slave owners who loved and cared for their slaves. and 'enjoyed' them. but that didn't make that right either. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Back on topic....in health and beauty this was just posted. I'm disgusted:skintscotslass wrote: »

The only thing I have ever read about dressage was in Black Beauty by Anna Sewell and I was about 9 I think. A customer from our ex shop did it as a hobby too...you know who I mean but I never ever chatted to her about it.
To someone who knows little about horses, it just 'looks' wrong to me....very unatural.0
