Or how bad your skin would have been...weather beaten, rough hands...broken bits that ache every time the air is damp and and cold. The inevitable cough...from the almost inevitable smoking, and the certain mucking out...the bills....the endless bills....and, frankly, some of the people....

It would have been good, but there are aspects of it that fade away in the ''what ifs.....'' that give everything plus and minuses.

I've read that Gilly Cooper "Riders" factual look at the industry.

    Phlipping heck!

I can't remember Riders TBH. I played polo. That one was both very wide of the mark and absolutely accurate. I'm not saying which bits though.

I didn't want all those bits, I just wanted the fame and glory:D

I'm anti smoking. I never saw my hero Hartwig Steenken smoke, but he often limped when he was walking a course, due to various pins he had in his legs from lots of falls.

LIR, did you see that the wonder horse Matine (Blue Hors Matine) has died after a freak accident in the field?

Yes. I still follow some dressage, its about all I follow though. what scares me is people will use this to further deny hard working athletes down time outside.

OMG that is so cruel. it is totally unnatural for the horse to have to perform those moves, not to say painful for it to hold its head in that position. the poor thing can only do it because it's been trained (tortured) that it has to. there is no freedom for these animals. and now it is died after a freak accident - again the result of human actions. wrong wrong wrong.

Some of those stories were true. Fen jumping a dangerous fence that others wanted to avoid for the safety of their horse was something that Marion Coates (Mould) did. But I guess that wasn't what you were referring too;)

Jake was loosely based on Harvey Smith and I always thought that Rupert's sidekick in the book (can't remember what she called him) was David Broome as he use to sing a lot at shows too. For some reason I had Rupert down as Paul Schockemohle, but none of my friends agreed with me on that one. Humpty(?) seemed to be Ted Edgar.

The freak accident was that she was in a field for her daily turnout with her buddy Coven and somehow broke her leg. Nothing that humans did to her, just a freak accident. I have never heard of that happening before.
