Report Bank Charges successes and failures

I rang Barclasys today and an advisor wrote a letter to the complaints team to complain about the excessive, unfair charges and that I was in a cycle of charges.
it is never a good idea to use "excessive" and "unfair". That nearly always leads to a rejection with them stating the 2009 court case that they won. The focus should be on the hardship if there is.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. FAILURE
Bank name: Halifax
I tried to re-claim £653 of bank charges from between 2007-2009 plus interest. I used the template and described how back then they put me in extreme financial hardship.
I got a call today saying because the charges are over 6 years old I don't stand a chance, it's past the 6 year ruling. They are going to send me a letter to confirm they're not paying out and that I can continue to explore with the Ombudsman - but is it worth it?
Do I have a leg to stand on as the charges are 8-9 years old??0 -

Read back just a few pages in this thread and the only circumstances in which you could claim (CURRENT financial hardship), are detailed over and over and over.0 -

This was always destined for failure. Financial hardship criteria relates to CURRENT situation and not historic. These are historic.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I think I'm posting in the correct forum....
Bank name: Lloyds Bank
Amount Reclaimed: Didn't specify
Amount they paid: £1100 and £2231.90
The story: I asked my husband to write to Lloyds as I thought his packaged bank account had been mis-sold which he'd had 15+ years - they didn't tell him he had to register his car and phone. Within one week they had offered him £1100! I thought this was a bit low considering the amount of time he had the account so we checked with the financial ombudsman before we cashed the cheque, but they told us it was correct. I used the free template letter on MSE to write to them and I just did a google search for the address to send it to (lloyds have a separate address for PPI/Bank account charges).
Having realised how easy it was my husband then decided to also claim for credit card PPI (Lloyds bank) and again, within a few weeks had received a cheque for £2230.
Very easy to do! I was a bit devastated to hear that my MiL had used a claim company to do PPI, she had a massive payout but obviously they took a big chunk of it. She's happy because she got the money but if she'd have mentioned it, I would have happily helped her do it herself and I wouldn't have taken a cut! On a related note we have used the money to get that much closer to being Debt free. Only £600 left to clear!!!!0 -
Bank with: Natwest
Amount claimed: £582
Refund amount: £456
I was in the 'sort of qualify for hardship' bracket but thought I should speak to Natwest and see what they could do. I wrote a letter using the advice and template on the site but didn't hear anything for 17 days, so followed it up with a call. The two advisers I spoke to were very helpful and understood my situation. I claimed for 6 years worth of charges (failed DDs and exceeding overdraft charges). They agreed to refund from the start of 2015 (18 months worth) which was the vast majority of the money. Thank you for this great website and the advice it gives!0 -

Well done but wrong thread. This one is not about packaged account charges. It is about overdraft and related charges. it goes back to the days when that was common but you still see the odd response from successes where financial hardship cases have seen refunds, as the post above this one has.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Help wanted - where to start?
Hi all,
I've read the guidelines but I am unable to download the template for some odd reason.
I am trying to reclaim back from Abby National between 2000 and 2010 on 2 separate accounts. I have received all my bank statements and have worked out that the charges total £7,521.20 between these 2 dates.
The charges at the time put me into a financial spiral and also contributed greatly in the breakup of my first marriage due to the financial difficulty that they caused. Many of the charges in question were in the area of £35 in response to cheques being written out, in some cases amounts were as low as £1. In addition to all the pain and stress that this caused, it also obviously affected my credit rating.
I'm not sure what to do or where to go from here as I can't download the sample letter (it comes up with an error). Please would it be possible to advise further?
Thank you all kindly,

if you have read the info then you would know it is no longer possible.
The banks won the court case in 2009. Now they only consider incorrect application of charges (i.e. charged the wrong amount). Or CURRENT financial hardship cases where they may give a goodwill gesture or use other means to help the person in current hardship.
They do not consider historic hardship cases. Sorry.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. If you are CURRENTLY in financial hardship, then you should put your case to the bank. The bank may decide to refund (some) charges , typically those charged in the last six months. Do remember that they are not obliged to refund anything at all.0
