Hi guys, Ive gone through the process of asking for my charges etc back and lloyds have offered me a partial refund which I'm happy with, however will this money be mine or will it just be taken off my overdraft?

Up to the bank to some extent - could just ring them and ask.

Though I assume, unless you have some higher interest rate loans to pay off, you would use the money for the OD anyway to save you money on interest?

    Hi guys,
I wanna share my success in claiming all packages account charges with 8% interest I had with HSBC. It was long waiting, they tried my patience by sending me one after another letter with info that an investigation is in process and then another form to fill in - but finally after 8 weeks I had full amount I have asked - accepted by bank .
    Do not give up :T
By the way , I also helped my brother to claim his bank account packages fees with Natwest . Using this website templates - I have sent a letter to bank in Monday , and on Friday he had a check posted with full amount we claimed. Respect to Natwest for a quick response what I cannot say about HSBC.
Thank You moneysavings expert ! I have learnt a lot in here , very helpfull and paying off !!
  • Hello there I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some advice please.

Yesterday I lodged a complaint with Barclays via email re bank charges I incurred from the years 2003 until present day whilst being in severe hardship.

10 minutes later Barclays were on the phone to me, they agreed that I have been in severe hardship and that as a goodwill gesture the gentleman was willing to offer 6 months of the charges back appx £250, there and then.
I said I needed time to think about there offer as I wanted time to see if this is a fair goodwill gesture on their part and the gentleman is calling back on Monday to see if I will accept.

From those of you who have had experience with these claims is the goodwill gesture of £250 which Barclays is offering me all I can expect to get or shld I not settle? Any feedback wld be appreciated so I can make an informed decision before Barclays call midday this coming Monday.

    Thank you in advance

Hi. Just wanted to tell you, that way back in 2007, I tried to claim PPI mis selling. Back in those days, I was a little naive and just accepted that I had no case.
Tried again in 2010 and again in 2012, but rejected. Received a letter out of the blue yesterday from MBNA to inform me that they had reviewed my case and will be sending me a cheque for £8000 in the next 28 days.
    So chuffed!!!!
Anyway, maybe the moral of the story is DO NOT GIVE UP.
    hope this helps someone.

The banks won the 'unfair charges' case in 2009. You have virtually zero chance of getting back fees from 2003. Banks tend to give up to 6 months fees back or freeze interest/charges for a set period but this is for current financial hardship e.g. cycle of debts and fees preventing you getting into the black (and no luxury spending). If you are not in current hardship then take the 250, it's not something they will haggle over.

  • Dear Nasqueron ty for yr informed reply. I am in still current hardship currently on ESA but yr advice is something that makes sense. I think I will jus accept ty and have a grand weekend. I only got out of my cycle of balck last week when Barclays awarded me 12 yrs of backdated missold bank acccounts - OD cleared (yay me n ty martin lewis website) - so now not in black no more - wonder if thats why they contacted me so quickly?

    Hi all,

I've been trying to claim back late payment fees and other penalty fees on my credit cards from the last six years.

Today the 'Abjudicator' of the Financial Ombudsman called me regarding my complaint and said that the Ombudsman can never recommend for the banks to refund fees on credit cards.

He said that the fees are not unfair since the banks showed them in 2009 what the fees consisted of and he also said that whether you are in financial difficulty or not doesn't make a difference.

He also somehow decided that the bank had treated me fairly without being interested in hearing my full story, and despite the fact that the banks did not contact me to inform me of my options during the last years when I've been in lots of financial difficulty.

    A very strange conversation.

He also surprisingly was not the Ombudsman although he works in the Financial Ombudsman's office. And he said taking the case forward to the Ombudsman will not change anything. I asked him to take the case forward anyway.

Was he lying or have I completely misunderstood something? How did people here get their money back from the banks. I have read the guidance but it seems that my complaint is not going as planned. I thought the Financial Ombudsman was my best bet for getting money back? But he said they NEVER tell the banks to refund charges...

    I'm so confused now.

You've misunderstood. Read posts on this board from Nasqueron, dunstonh et al that will explain your (very limited) rights.
  • I wld like to thank Nasqueron and the advice I have read and received from this forum.

Last week after 9 weeks I won 12 yrs backdated barclays missold bank accounts fees which now means I thankfully not in the OD spiral of doom.

This then gave me the confidence to tackle Barclays over bank charges I emailed this Sunday and as of today now have £280 deposited in my account as a goodwill gesture - apparentally refunding of goodwill gestures re bank charges is a quicker process than missold bank accounts n PPI.

This has now given me the confidence to chase missold PPI on my barclays additions account (the 0.80 charge one) - for those still waiting Good Luck be patient - I can't thank this forum enuff.
  • Bank : Royal Bank of Scotland
    Account : Royalties Premiere Account
Held Between : October 2006 and March 2008
    Amount claimed : £265.82
    Amount refunded : £191.23

I used the template letter as i was mis-sold the account to get a loan. i did not include statements as i did not have them however i received a call from a customer adviser who went through my account history and identified the payments to be investigated. yesterday they refunded me £191.23 which was the package fees plus 8% gross interest minus £142.29 savings on loans and savings on overdrafts.
