  • Well I still haven't heard anything :(
  • They said they haven't broken any rules and won't be refunding anything. What a surprise.

Well, you did say you were no longer in financial hardship..
  • Bank name: Lloyds
My story is a bit different. I received a letter that explained because I have used overdraft, I will be charged and a following letter will notice me of the amount of overdraft charges. I used overdraft in my account for some 6 days unintentionally (one of my bills was bigger than expected). And I resolved the issue myself (just transferred the money) and wasn't aware of overdraft charges, my surprise when I got the letter. Seemed like they will charge me with some £70 (I tried to calculate the amount) but my problem was that I was at the time unemployed. I got so scared even before I was charged. So I found this template letter of complaint and wrote my story to the bank. Received a call next day from the bank and they said they have looked at my situation and dropped the charges.
All I want to say folks, don't hesitate, act as fast as you can. Even if the bank says they can not resolve the issue you can still try to complain further (Ombudsman).
Hope this helps to someone :)
  • Thank you Martin for your help. I bank with lloyds tsb I sent them a email asking for my bank charges back for the last six years on 17/11/14 two days later the bank rang me to say they was going to pay me back the full amount of £1229 and was in my account a hour later. :j

When commenting on your successes, please can you say what the charges were for.

This thread about overdraft charges (where there is not much success nowadays, apart from financial hardship and first time offenders). it is not about packaged account charges (where there is a lot of success)

  • im just after some advice, ive had an account witgh Barclays since I was a student many years ago.

this account is not being used at all, im just paying into it each month to clear the debt off there has been so little activity on the account they did not issue me with a new card.

im paying back £60 a month to clear the debt, previously the interest charged was £30 a month! so this is taking me twice as long to clear it all off.

to my shock I have now hit a new threshold as the debt is lower now around the £1000/£1200 mark, im now being charged interest by the day and im being charged around £45 a month!!

so now its going to take even longer to clear off the debt!!

is it worth writing to Barclays and seeing if they can reverse the charges? or is it tough and ill have to lump it??

    Thanks in advance! Ben

They are unlikely to reverse any interest already charged, but you may be able to negotiate a more manageable and less expensive payment plan with them. Certainly, you need to get in touch and talking to someone in person is more likely to expedite matters than writing a letter.

I have been into a branch to see if they can do anything to freeze the interest as im not using the account, they said no, nothing they can do. The suggestion was to get a loan to pay it off as it will be lower interest....I probs should have added that into the blub above sorry :)

So why haven't you done this already? There will be no refund of interest coming your way...
