I called the Bank of Scotland on the 22nd June 2013 to complain about bank charges going back to April 2012.
Was put though to there Customer Relations who caled me back in 3 hours time, with a decision. They refunded £1239, due to amount had to get authorised by a manager. Money was deposoted by them into my account on the 25th June 2013 and all future charges canceled.
This related to snowballing charges, I.E getting more charges due to previous months charges.
Hope this helps people that were in same situation as myself. I didnt plead financial hardship i just stated they were unfair due to charging me for there charges and they refuded them.0 -
I just wondered if anyone has had any success / tips recently through dealing with HSBC.
I am trying to claim back 4 years worth of agreed overdraft arrangement fees at £25 each time between 2005 - 2009 (My account closed February 2010) - which total £615 (with interest at 8% total £907.50 I'm claiming for)
My argument I'm using is they lent irresponsibly to me at the time - as I had a huge online gambling problem, and allowed me to keep increasing my overdraft most months - 1 month they allowed me to do this 5 times - costing me £125 for just agreeing to my overdraft facility despite my erratic use of account. (I never once breached my agreed limit)
I've also stated numerous hardship reasons mainly due to the gambling, personal circumstances sudden death of my mum meaning a drop in household income etc - have further been compounded by these unfair stealth charges, which are disportionate for routine administrative checks.
I have also quoted they no longer charge these agreed overdraft arangement fees as a result of the bank charges court case (not sure if that is right - although I checked their current overdraft fees on their website)
Anyway got a rejection letter back - saying to go to their financial guidance team if I wanted to claim hardship - spoke to them - they said the letter was wrong and they couldn't help me. So wrote back to original address and told them I'm giving them 14 days to write back with a satisfactory response quoting they are breaking British Banking Association guidelines; as they are cohesively telling me misleading information trying to prevent me claiming under hardship grounds.
I have said unless they provide a satisfactory response / settlement I will be contacting bbc watchdog regarding this claim and their banking practice and also be going to the financial ombudsmun.Recovering Gambling Addict- [/COLOR0 -
Of course you are. Nothing tried, nothing gained
To start with, write a letter with the facts as you have told us with the help of the sample application (hardship).
The Citizen Advice Bureau can also help you.
You sound like a hardworking, honest kind of person, and hate the banks' system crushing people like you.Hi all,
I hope you guys can help me.
I have an account with Halifax and have a planned overdraft of £600, I get paid on a weekly basis and work for minimum wage and struggle every week to pay bills etc and most weeks go over my overdraft limit.
I have not been in the black on this account for as long as I can remember, I have asked for a small personal loan just to clear the overdraft which has been refused multiple times.
So after reading this I have learned this is called snowballing, without fail every month I get charged upwards of £50, often a lot more.
Am I in a position to try and claim back anything?
I really do struggle every week to pay all of my bills.0 -
Could I make a plea for the Bank's name to appear in the title, especially where there is Failure or Sucess.
Over the years, it seems to me that some banks are far more sympathetic than others.
In my specific case, Halifax weren't sympathetic to someone who had serious mental issues.
They have lost my custom.0 -
Bankd LLoyds TSB
Amount claimed. £590
Amount awarded £590
Reclaimed packaged Platinum monthly Fee. Initially on the phone they turned me down, but after 15 minutes of stating that I was mis sold in order to obtain an overdraft, they caved in and awarded me the full amount, they wouldn't accept liability that I was mis sold but offered as a gesture of good will.
Never hesitate and remain strong and your powers of negotiation will prevail.
Thank-you Martin!0 -

Wrong thread, mate
Nothing in the linked article about reclaiming packaged bank account charges.
This is the thread you should have posted in:

Hi...:hello:can anyone please tell me the correct claim address for Lloyds TSB? (my bank for the last 18 years) I did see a list on one of the posts at some point but cant find it now. They have charged me £1,784 JUST in overdraft fees for a 9 month period, 2010 a time when I was going through a divorce and I had been made redundant!
I have followed the information on here and started a claim to MBNA, Tesco, HSBC and Halifax. Halifax cashed my £10 cheque within 3 days then sent me a huge wad of paperwork, am I meant to go through it all and list any charges I find? HSBC have returned the cheque and enclosed a basic printed list of 2 charges and offered to pay me double if I accept and withdraw my claim, but how do I know if there hasn't been any other fees? Apart from Tesco Credit Card all the other accounts were closed in 2010 so other than my closing statements I don't have any old paperwork. I also intend to make a claim to Barclays. Any support welcome....:wave:0
