I just received a call from them apologising. She couldn't/wouldn't answer the question as to why I was suddenly being charged but has refunded my charges so far.

Now investigating the Hullomail service in the post above. Seems to be a workaround for the remainder of the contract.

Some common sense from t-mobile - I have not heard anything back yet for my own email query.

The best thing to do is to call 150 and ask them to disable the voicemail, so that when someone calls you when the phone is on, it will carry on ringing until caller hangs up. When someone calls when the phone is off, the person will simply not get through. Also, go to call settings and cancel all call diverts then there will be no chance that any call is going to go into voicemail.

PS. I also ask them to put a bar on premium rate numbers and short code text messaging, both barring are free of charge.

I have given Hullomail a wee try, seems to be working fine. I made 5 test calls to voicemail, no charges at all. Worth giving a try I would say.

Don't you need internet / data to use the hullomail thing - I am cheap so don't have it.

Too much hassle for me - I like simple things :D and ain't keen on just about anyone receiving my voicemails with the privacy issues.

You only need internet access to register and set the service up. Voicemail notification by email is in addition to notification by text and can be switched off or ignored.

Just like a mobile operators service they send you a text with the callers number and the number you need to dial to retrieve your message. You can easily reprogram the "1" key on your phone to dial the Hullomail voice mail box instead of your mobile phone company.

So far the service is free to use, although it does give you the option to invite friends to the service. Paid for premium services will no doubt follow.

Only for certain tariffs, that what I realised when I signed up t-mobile in april 2009. The only workaround was dialling your own number but now they seem to have started charging for that from Jan 2010.

Refuce to pay £2.50 for something that should be free - will just move. I do like the idea of flexible boosters etc on the new tariffs but I normally switch networks every 12 months to get the best deal (and t-mobile do not do 12 month any longer unless you renew and pay too much).

I am wary of using Hullomail - not sure how privacy is protected here or what the catch is - might give it a shot but its a lot of hassle to get around voicemail charges.

I need voicemail - can easily miss calls.

I got a reply from t-mobile to my email query and chap tells me he can see I have been charged and my last bill will be adjusted.

Then goes on to "request" me to not call voicemail as I will be charged for it. Eh - I was not getting charged for dialling my own number till middle of Jan. Ok they are closing a loophole but cheek to do it mid contract.

So looking forward to leaving end of March now.
