  • Lou, that's shocking. I hope the other students appreciated you standing up and saying that you thought?

    Claire - that's good that it's only a trapped never isn't it?

I'm being really naughty at work, got my ipod on, on here and also reading my course book - whilst the Marketing Director is sat about 20ft away from me.

Thankfully he can't hear me sing, as he's in his little office but he can see the chair shoulder shuffle!:rotfl::eek:

The list of free courses at the local college is stupid. All 'manual' stuff except for First Aid and Food Hygiene which I can do through Girlguiding! Won't let em do book-keeping free.

    just catching up.

We offer book keeping for free - the way to get it is to ask about the concessionary fee. As it's (I'm guessing) an accredited course - ie with a qualification at the end, there will more than likely be a hefty reduction if you are on benefits.

Then - ask about student support funds. For household incomes under £16k, we offer £350 per year per learner for accredited courses - including book keeping, which means you can do at least 1 and probably 2 qualification courses in an academic year.

    I have been causing trouble:o:o

Its the teaching on the accounting qual that I am doing, it is totally shocking. Basically the tutor turns up to class and reads out of the textbook (which we all have and can read ourselves thankyouverymuch).

He then proceeds to rattle at a rocket pace through an example on the board and if you ask a question he just talks over you.........

    Well today I had enough....:o

    good for you! :D

Just to say though - you're banned from ever enrolling on anything I teach :rotfl:

so if hes had no teacher training how did he become a lecturer?

    you don't need any .................

    seriously.......

Things are changing now though and new tutors/lecturers are working towards a qualification to teach adults which is the equivalent of the PGCE and once you start you have 5 years to complete it. However, until the last couple of years there has been no formal qualification you need to teach adults other than being interested/good at the subject. I'm 5 weeks away from being able to apply for Associate Teacher status. I doubt I'll go for the whole qualification though as it's another year and it isn't needed for teaching leisure courses.

Off to teach now myself..........see you all tomorrow........

  • Thanks BB - I'll look into it.
Can't believe that i logged on just as you posted that!

Trying to sort 135 people into different sessions for Sunday has proved rather time consuming today. After 5 years it still is complicated. We give them so many choices etc and they never book until the last moment. I have left the office to type out all the registers etc and then I will go back in on Friday to double check them and sort the catering out.

I wonder if any DFWs could lend some support to this cause. The OU won't be accepting Tesco clubcard vouchers for anything above Level One from June 2010 :(

    good evening :)

Am at home now getting an early night to recover from my hangover ;)

Currently munching sweets in leiu of dinner - been so hungry all day from Sunday's run feel like I havent stopped eating!!

Sammy - carbs five pm thing - ignore it, thats if you are trying to lose weight but if you want to run in the mornings (or in fact do a full training plan) then you need to be fueled correctly and carbs do that so keeping enjoying them and enjoying the running :D
  • Sally, dont be silly, if I can afford it I will get them. If I remember correctly its something like £2 for 50 (ie 50 spoons etc). I am guessing we only need knives, forks and big spoons Shrug_by_melonhead_emotion.gif Napkins are really cheap £3 for 500 or something equally crazy. I will check them out tomorrow and report back :A

Lou, good for you :T I tell you want I wish I had your courage a few years ago. I decided to re-take a gcse and of course I didnt know I would be chucked in with some 'teenager' that needed to retake thier gcse alongside their 'main' course. When it came to teaching they made so much noise/'I am stuck'/'help me sir' that myself and other adult learners were shoved to the side and ended up teaching ourselves. In the end I just left and lost the £300 I payed for the course. I regret not saying anthing/getting a refund now :( Now I am thinking of re-sitting it, well not for a long while yet as sadly low-income adults get no help in my college

All my list is done and more... Just had a bath and now I am ready to relax this evening. I have found a free app which I think is similar to your farmville, although its called tap farm. Loving it :T Oh and I may be having pizza for tea

I sort of lost my rag in the classroom and told him that in order for us to understand he needs to slow down and when we ask a question we need them answering.

    I also said........:o:o:o

his teaching style was the poorest I had ever come across and that for the December exam we basically taught ourselves from past exam papers and we were not going to accept it this term.

He said that we should have told him sooner as, wait for it....................HE HAS HAD NO TEACHER TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shocking but sadly the norm. When I did the first couple of exams for ACCA I was enrolled at the local college £500 per term and for that princely sum I got to sit in the library one day per week and a tutor came to talk to me for 20 mins......and that was it.

I now teach myself or if I am struggling I go on a revision course from BPP in Birmingham. Pricey courses at approx £320 per course and its four days intensive revision, but they teach you how to pass the exam...
