good evening !!... i went to the shops today and bought nothing.. well i came back and orderer £14 worth of the body shop goodies , bought 5 items from the vitamin E range. i absolutely love it, in store they are full price but on line half price.. so i stocked up, it is the only thing i can wear in my very sensitive skin.. so it was a good buy as i am using all what i got and did not have back ups :D. i have no excuse to order again.

btw i do use make up every day well, when i go out, only mineral foundation as i have redness in my cheeks and dark circles, that's all..... I am latin so i am naturally tan.. so do not need any of the others... heheh
I ordered from the Body Shop too. I bought 3x hemp hand creams for £8.50, so should last me forever (and one is a gift).

I will get flamed for this , but this is a recurring theme in your posts.........''.a bit of a bargain ..............'' Its only a bargain if it something you need ,not because it appears to have been reduced substantially .Do you need new shoes to go to an interview?

I have read this thread from start to finish and you have all started off vowing to stop spending and ended up comparing ''bargains '':rotfl:
:o harsh but true I guess. I have to say that my purchases are down 80% this month and I have returned almost £200's worth of things... that's progress (to me, anyway).

I don't know about the other, but I personally don't have any debts and never have, so it is not as if I am spendings £s on stuff when I could be paying off creditors.

Gotta agree! Thge toiletries one is turning out like this too!

Is there much resistance going on on MSe any more :o:p

Im off to the frugal challenge where posters try not to buy anything - feel thats the best place for me ;)
I think maybe it helps people to admit to what they've spent on here. Okay so we're not perfect but I think it's better to be here and documenting exactly what you've spent, than now acknowledging that you have a spending problem in the first place, iyswim?

This weekend is the first weekend in about two years that I haven't bought anything. Granted I am feeling unwell, but I did go to Asda and avoided buying the tshirt.

I also went through my wardrobe and took everything out that either is a) brand new, b) too small, or c) hasn't been worn for over 3 years. I was left with hardly anything. My wardrobe did look nice and clear though... If only I could actually get rid of half the stuff. I had a hard time throwing out a cardigan that was so badly worn it was unwearable but has memories attached to it. This is going to sound insane/pathetic/both, but I'd rather keep it in the loft than think of it lying on a tip somewhere :o

Have had my first swap on Bigwardrobe. Swapped some Elemis toner for some nice M&S beads. So satisfied my shopping urge without spending any money, except postage.
That's great :) I should really get into the whole Bigwardrobe thing.

    Hi all

How did you get on this Saturday?

I avoided any books today even though I looked at loads. Ate out again.
Impulse buys this week - too many cakes - nothing else

I need to look at my clothes and finally sort them out but can't face it. Seem to have a huge anxiety about it. Perhaps because I'll realise there are only a few things I like and if I get rid of it all there will be massive space to fill. And once I give myself permission to start buying, the whole compulsive clothes shopping could re-start with a vengeance.
I just wrote something similar about my own wardrobe and then read your post. I don't think I would be so tempted to replace everything though, as I quite like how my wardrobe looked minus all of the excess stuff. It was almost a relief to have it out of there, but at the same time I felt quite sad :o

Well done for avoiding the books though.

sometimes a bargain can be a bad buy - but getting some well-fitting, classic shoes that wear well but cost x5 as much a "bargain" might last a lot longer & be more comfy. Less shoes is sometimes more :)
I think this is very good advice for a lot of us who seem to be lured in by sales. I personally prefer to have one nice expensive thing that a load of cheap things from sales. But my way can be costly, too...

Hey girlies - I think it is a occuring thing with me, that everything seems a bargain. I do need some interview shoes, as my present ones was £5 cheapies that I wear for ten minutes and I have a huge blister. I don't think im a good influence on this thread, perhaps im not quite as reformed as I thought :( So shall alt my postings I do want to be reformed but i just think im not in the same mind set as all you other girlies yet :/

NGLady I enjoy reading your posts so please don't feel like you have to stop posting them. I don't think you're a bad influence on anyone - we all make our own minds up on how we spend our money.
  • Have to admit I bought a pair of shoes in the Duo sale. Had to send them back as they were too small, and the postage was high. Then saw another pair on there that I loved so sent for them as well as they were in the sale. The fit is not perfect as they are a little bit tight but just hoping that they will give. They are really quality shoes and should last for ages.

Girlies, don't give up posting! You have not come on here and said that you are all totally frugal and fabulous and don't buy anything you don't need. If that was the case, why would you bother coming on? No, you are all trying to cut down and that means different things for different people. If you've cut down then surely that's a start. This is not the 'every penny's a prisoner thread' but the 'I shop too much and need a bit of help one.' X

In regards to Big wardrobe, I have had some fantastic 'swaps'. And I have made through doing it a extremely good friend who will I shall be friends with for a long time, so aswell as a great swap of getting new clothes for cheap, if you embrace the social atmosphere of the forum, you will have a good giggle on the forums too :) However, as well as some fantastic swaps, there has been some not so great ones, but mainly these not so great ones was my fault, these happend in the earlier stages of bigwardrobe, in those days I would swap for anything I thought was pretty and to be honest it cluttered me up a lot, so I have really had to get into the logic of "would I purchase this in the shop" or "What woud I wear this with and wear" it really does help, because whilst it isnt expensive it is still a couple of quid and it can still start to add up :)

Im doing good today :) Apart from it being valentines day :( Went to nephews birthday party, saw my sister for her birthday and now waiting for my Indian to arrive :)

    Hi all

Nglady - handsome Indian is he? :D

I've had a shop-free day - visiting relatives and currently feeling very nauseous as I was with ex and we were on a very long drive home all twisty narrow lanes and it took ages to get back - in the end he was feeling sick too!

Completelylost - I think the main problem with my inability to sort my clothes is a fear of never being able to get anything that fits. I think that is because a couple of years back I got rid of 90% of my clothes most of them were really nice and stylish and fit well. However, since then I struggled to get items that were as comfortable, so kept buying more and more misfits. However I'd rather have them, than nothing.

Of course that doesn't really make sense. If I only wear a couple of things and have a wardrobe of stuff I can't use, it does seem pointless to keep them. One day I'll have to be brave.

Angela: Lol Yes the curry was a very tasty Indian (lol) A long drive with an ex through winding roads on Valentines day, now that sounds like tourture :S

Do understand what you mean you feel "safe" to have all of these clothes/accessories? It is daft to anybody that isnt that way inclined but it is true.
