For those of you who are thinking about doing a stck check of your wardrobe- DO IT! If you think you'll be too weak willed to get rid of everything then you may need to enlist a friend. If you do, get one who will be harsh enough to fight you for that pair of jeans that you don't want to get rid of but they have a hole in them.

The liberation you'll find when your wardrobe is clear is unbelievable. It then spreads out into the rest of your life (hence me now doing the no more toiletries!). You become able to just open up your wardrobe and instantly see an outfit. You will only have a few key pieces (think Gok) but you can accessorize with jewellery or shoes.
There are a couple of threads on health/beauty about it. Bronnies I am clearing out my wardrobe thread and Sharronlovestospend is another to read. Over the summer last year we had a daily thread running, fashionistas daily which people discussed outfits and capsule wardrobes on.

Anyway, sorry for stalking you salesaddict! Good luck with your journey.

You're not stalking me. You are really helping me. I will be reading the threads you mentioned.:)

I'm sorry you are feeling so bad salesaddict, but it can surely only get better from here on? :o You need to harness these feelings and use them whenever your resolve weakens. Next time you get the tingle of excitement to shop for bargains, try and remember clearly exactly how you felt a) when you saw everything laid bare on your kitchen table b) when you tried to cram it all back in again and c) when you posted the above. The picture on your mobile phone should be a great help too.

I am not trying to put you on a downer so I'm sorry if it reads that way. What I am trying (probably badly) to say is that instead of associating shopping with feelings of excitement and happiness, try to associate it with the feelings you have experienced over the weekend. So instead of seeing shopping as a joy, it simply becomes a mundane activity to replace necessities like food.

    You can do this!!
I am glad you have confidence in me:)

As if you would ever put me on a downer:)

  • Chuck the old ones out, NGLady (though that is easy for me to say... not so easy for me to do - my underwear drawer really needs a good clearout :o).

You need to join The Great Declutter thread - I find it helpful to post there every few days with what I've brought in and out of the house.

  • Have to say, I don't own any clutch bags. I don't go anywhere to be able to use them =/
Good luck with that! Let us know how you get on.

I have chucked 4 shabby items from the underwear drawer. I think that's as much as I can bear to chuck for one night.

    Yay you :D
I dont go anywhere to use them either, I just have always loved them. When im in the shops this sort of thing always attracts me more than the sensible things lol

  • Isn't that always the case. We don't buy anything essential... that would just be boring :S

Speaking of which, I saw the most gorgeous studded purse in Debenhams today, just before I bought The Coat of Doom. I managed to resist that though... even though I need a new purse more than a new coat.
