Welcome Andrea and littlekitty :j
Seems quiet on here lately. NGlady - still haven't heard about your last date. Did your new job start this week?
I think this thread has been TOO SUCCESSFUL. I haven't bought anything in ages.
However, I still haven't unpacked some things from about a month ago - so have got a way to go until I'm fully reformed!
The skirts I bought a while back that were a bit tight and I was going to lose a few pounds for, well they look completely different on than they did in the shops (always the way)- so don't like them, but will wear them begrudgingly.
So how are you all doing? Souk, been on any more dates?0 -
Hey Anglea,
it is very quiet isn't it? I would love to hear how NGLady is getting on, with work and with her dates!
I haven't been spending too much, I had my birthday this month and I always buy my presents with the money people give me, usually I buy things in advance as I know approximately how much each set of people will give me. My sister bought me a great trenchcoat from Very, it is beautiful and she managed to get £30 off with a discount code. Here is is - http://www.very.co.uk/storm-flap-trench-coat/657943938.prd?browseToken=%2fb%2f1642%2fs%2fbestsellers%2c0%2fr%2f100&trail=1589-1642&prdToken=/p/prod1582447-sku2350525
I also got a pair of white leather pumps from Zara from my inlaws, a maxidress from Republic from my Mum and Dad, and a T-shrt from New Look from my wife. So I did pretty well! I also got an underskirt from my Granny, to make a dress I have a bit more 50's style.
I have been resisting buying myself clothes as well as my wife is pregnant! We are very excited and the baby is due in October!0 -

You don't have to have a new top everytime you go out - even if its from Primark.
You don't have to buy new toiletries just because they're new and improved especially when you have a shelf full of half used ones in the bathroom.
Buying jeans in the sale when you have exactly the same pair that you paid full price for at home isn't sensible - I don't work on a building site therefore jeans don't wear out.
I know it's been said already but this really was a great post - thanks Andrea. I've just finished 'In the Red' by Alexis Hall, also recommended on this thread and it contained pretty much the same kind of advice that we all know, but just seem to forget in the heat of the moment.
I've gone quiet on this thread lately, mainly because I'm using the wisdom found here and have reined in my innner shopaholic, and hopefully not just for the time being - we'll see  I'm keeping my spending diary religiously and boring all around me by writing down every little amount. After years of saying "where does the money go?" like it was completely beyond my control, I now know exactly where it goes and feel like I've regained some control over it. Apart from my gross overspending on clothes, I bought books several times a week (yes Amazon, you know who you are!) and have since rediscovered my local library. Just today I brought them a list of 9 books I've fancied since I had my LBM and they had one in stock, 4 in other libraries that they've ordered in for me and 4 new ones that they'll order up too - at a cost of just 50p each. How could you beat that!! Just started The Book Thief and loving it...0 -
My day off work has been very productive - wardrobe 1 has revealed a nice bag that I'd forgot about - similar to one I was looking at buying in Next a couple of weeks ago - so thats £18 up.
Also a pair of last years (or maybe even the year befores because I REALLY don't remember buying them last year) black linen trousers still with the labels on that I can wear on my night out with work tomorrow - so the £8 Primark ones I was going to get 'because they're only £8 therfore don't count as a purchase in my world' can stay in Primark.
I've come on here now to try and stop me from going on the Debenhams site as they've got 15% off and I nearly bought a top last week at full price so I can hear it calling me wanting me to rescue it from the Debenhams warehouse and thats even worse than the window shopping that I can't do.
Maybe I shoud start wardrobe 2 .........2013 - Finally got the house we' ve worked so hard to get......now it's a life of diy and no money....couldn't be happier 😊

I've decided to sort my selection of carrier bags (seriously) there are a lot that can be used for the supermarket and don't need to be in the bedroom reminding me what I might discover in wardrobe 2 - sounds like a film trailer - wardrobe 2 the revenge2013 - Finally got the house we' ve worked so hard to get......now it's a life of diy and no money....couldn't be happier 😊

Hi girls
I came across this article in the paper and thought it would inspire us to cut down, - but reading through I don't think it will - LOL

No don't think it will Angela. I've been keeping my spending diary up every day and trying my best to cut down. Minimal spend day today as met a freind for a coffee and needed a couple of food items.0
