[Have I mentioned that my current obsession is with "getting my colours done", by which I mean I want some-one to tell me what colours suit my white-blue Scottish skin, dark hair and blue eyes without making me look ill! My logic behind this is that, if I do this, then I'll only buy clothes that actually suit me so I won't be wasting money on hideous wardrobe malfunctions!
I'm not totally stupid though and I have figured out that beige is awful on me. You'd never even notice me against a magnolia wall if it weren't for the hair! And bright blues must be good because that's what every-one tells me.
But other than that I'm pretty clueless. I keep hearing peopl talk about yellow sking tones or bluey ones or peachy ones... I haven't the foggiest what they are on about!
Never fear though, if I ignore the obsession long enough, another one will come along in it's place! :rotfl:[/QUOTE]
Hi I got my colours done (before my lbm) and a lovely lady travelled from the Garrion Bridge to my house for a consulatation. If I remember correctly it cost 2 of us £134.50 each.
However since I am not sure how much you can afford to splash out right now (esp since you will no doubt want to buy new clothes and make up once you've had them done) I would try the book from Amazon for £9: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Colour-Me-Beautiful-guidance-confident/dp/0600620808/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297255589&sr=8-1 It doesn't replace the full experience but it is a whole lot cheaper x
ps Just checked ebay for something else and someone on Ebay is selling the CMB book for £4.99 with free postage!)Marie

What I would do is get some of the key colours that look good on you and they look it up in that book or in one from the library (assuming you still have some open!!) You don't sound like spring as that is soft pastels. I am reds, oranges, browns, greens, turquoise - sludgy colours with a warm undertone - that's autumnal. My mum was winter which was black, white, pillar box red, royal blue - very strong primary type colours with a blue undertone. Have no idea on summer.

Sorry niccatw,
I'm hijacking your thread for 'colour me bootiful' purposes.
Have found a much better, cheaper approach - go to www.improvability.co.uk/products/seasonal_wallets.html
and have a look for colours in your wardrobe that really suit you.

Hi Butti/Niccatw
The lady who did mine said they'd stopped using seasons as it was too restrictive. (Think this was maybe just an excuse to bring out a new book!)
It's all light/deep/warm/cool/clear/soft now. For example my friend has dark hair and dark eyes so she's deep and warm. I have dark hair and blue eyes so I am clear and warm. I think as a my fellow Scot, Niccatw has the same complexion as me which would mean that jewel colours, like the top from Littlewoods, is perfect. The only difference between forking out over £100 for a consultation and buying the book is that your consultant gives you a filofax sized wallet with your colour samples so you can take them to the shops in your handbag to make sure you always buy things that are in your pallette. However you could always buy the book (and either photocopy it or tear it out to keep in your bag) or order your swatche from the cmb website for approx £35 - £45 x

Oh wow! A whole colour industry! I'll maybe go with the book initially! Thought between Butti and Marie, you've probably worked it out! Bright reds suit me too, so Butti, like your mum, that must make me winter. And will translate to the jewell colours you mention Marie. I'm sure it's all just my ploy to buy new clothes though!
I tried updating my diary a few days ago and my laptop closed down on me and I lost loads that I'd typed. So I grumpily decided to igonre it's bad behaviour it and have paid it no attention for a wee while! So I've loads to catch up on, but I'll leave that for tonight. I don't want my laptop getting ideas above it's station!

I have a far cheaper approach to 'getting my colours done' - I just go shopping (preferably with a friend or family member to critique) and try things on to see if it looks good on me
Make up counters in big department stores are another good source of advice on basic skin colouring if you say you're foundation hunting. Either which way, I have a pretty decent idea of what colours look best on me and what to avoid, everything else depends on whether I like the garment.
Then again, I also long ago decided I trying to keep up with the fashion industry was an expensive and never ending wild goose chase, so I just buy decent quality things I like and suit me, and wear them regardless. Not that I buy many clothes, though, I don't really like clothes shopping and only tend to make a few trips a year..
Sheesh, I'm a disgrace to our gender, ain't I?Never underestimate the power of the techno-geek...0 -
:hello: Sorry I've been mising in action for a wee whiley. I've been feeling a bit technophobic and fed up of being so easily contactable wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, so decided to have a go at being on the laptop less!
I've loads to catch up on, but I'll make this short (well, for me anyway!) and catch up with you properly soon.
The car is red.Well actually, more of a dark reddy-orangey colour. I love it. It has buttons I can't work. Everything is on the other side compared to the old car and I haven't managed once to work the backscreen window wiper correctly! I only managed to reverse park without incident by luck as I haven't yet worked out the dimensions and the bonnet disappears below the windscreen and I know it's longer than the Fiesta!
But I love being stopped at red lights now, the stop/start engine is clearly still a novelty for me! (Red lights are my road rage achilles heel; I think my registration number is stored in their memories and they turn just as I approach.)
It's still very shiny and new and I am very proud of my new wee car.It has a CD player and everything! :rotfl:
And my boss has agreed too 1/2 day per week as study leave for a four week trial period. She'll check back in then and if it's working, then we'll continue. If not and I'm still feeling it's way too much for me, then I'll withdraw and she'll discuss the money side of things with the bursary people.
I spoke to the prof at uni too and he said just to give him a call if I need anything. He's just one of these unflappable people who you calm down as soon as you hear their voice!
I think I'm over being a perfectionist about it! If I can pass and feel I have understood enough of the topic to be able to apply it in some small way to my work, then I'll be happy with that. I just don't want to be a stressed as I was with the last module. And still come away with a feeling of knowing nothing at the end of it all!
I've no doubt you'll all need to remind me of these words as the deadline appraoches!!!Baby steps... one wee module at a time..
NSD 10 today (though not been on NSD thread most of February.Bad Niccatw!)
£5.06 and £35.35 respectively paid to RBS loan. When they clear it'll be sitting at £6,321.13.
I still have £1200 sitting to go to it. And I still don't know whether to move it now!
I have been calling the factors for a week. I finally spoke to some-one today and ended up putting the phone down on them!
After explaining I'd been told there was water gushing under the building and they didn't know where it was coming from, that I still had no idea what was happening or whose responsibility is was and that as far as I could see there was two massive holes down underneath the building, which, given the rain (and snow tonight ), surely can't be a good thing for a building with water gushing underneath it!!!! Could any-one tell me what was happening as I hadn't seen any workmen in the last few weeks. And any idea of the potential cost involved while you're at it?
But there was nothing on the sytem for my address. (Stock response! That's why I cannot stand phoning them! %$*&£^* useless! It drives me insane!)
And the guy on the phone couldn't understand what I was worrying about as if there was any charge involved, they'd just invoice me!
Arrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! THAT is my worry! Quite apart from the fact no-one seems to be doing anything about what I reckon is quite a serious issue - if there is indeed water gushing under the building!
Honestly, name me any large organisation in the UK that actually has a handle on customer care and the infrastructure to back it up! I absolutely despair!
If you bump into Mary Portas on your travels, send her my way, will you?

Giving up on perfection is difficult Nic. I was happy with 62 for my research module until I found out the average was 63. My friend was referring to herself as a thicko for getting 58 and I said 'Well it can't help that you're sitting next to someone who is scoring 73!' (not me I might add!)
Do remember it is (probably) a couple of years since you were studying and you also have at least one job, two I think so all in all you're doing fairly well. I'm finding it hard and I have no job and only the Coronation Street Omnibus to distract me.
Right better go - a report on the advantages and disadvantages of Choice Based Lettings awaits. My dining room table, as ever, is awash with paper.
Remember.......and breathe.....

Yikes! That's the good thing about long distance studying! At least there's no-one to compare scores against! Though it's not quite so good when you need some-one in the same situation to sound ideas off!
I've been doing some-thing I hate doing today! Phoning companies!
o2 put their prices up so I was going to be paying double from next month. So I called for my MAC code, all set to move to Orange who are doing a £7.50 deal, with calls and a three free months and a free printer for an 18 month contract. But I let o2 talk me into staying on the same tariff but for £9.50 for a 12 month tariff. I didn't really want the hassle of changing at all and I'm not sure I'm out of BT contract to have moved to Orange calls anyway. I wish I was more assertive with these kind of calls as I'm sure I could have got it for less if I'd been prepared to negotiate! Saving pm £5.
Next I called LoveFilm. I never use it. Still I let the women persuade me to stay for another 6 months free. So I will have to remember to call back in August. And check that's it's actually been implemented! Saving pm £4.07.
Then I called Credit Expert and cancelled my membership. This time I was offered it for half price and I said no. :T Saving pm £6.99
I tried to call Orange to get rid of my photo bundle as I hardly use it. I gave up holding on though. Potential saving pm £5.00
I've beeen trying to figure out how to cancel my Priviledge account fee for my Co-op account. Last time I tried to do this via phone they said they'd do and never acted on it so I'm looking to put it in writing. Potential saving pm £9.50
I'm going to write to Oxfam to cancel my D/D. (I could just cancel the D/D online but feel it's a bit wrong to do that without letting Oxfam know?) Potential saving pm £10.83
I'm going to cancel my quarterly magazine subscription for Sew magazine. Potential saving pm £4.49
Actual savings pm £16.06
Potential savings pm £29.82
So if I crack on and get it all done, I'll have save a total of £45.88 pm
Which more than covers the extra £32 for Scottish Power.
And my new car, although wonderful, is costing me a lot more than the last one. it does at least come out of my wages at source, but that'll affect my take home pay and probably also what I pay towards my sudent loan (SLC2 in signature). And in this months pay it'll be split between the two cars so I will be confused!
So I've eventually done some of the things I've been putting off for ages now!
And I went to the community garden project too. There wasn't much happening today but I got to meet some of the people and hear about their funding bids and plans for the gardens. Essentially the long term planis to have it working as a self-sufficient allotment thet the community can use. But at the moment it hasn't been running long enough so there's a lot to do!!
So hopefully now I've met some of the people, I won't be such a wuss and go back along and get involved. It's within walking distance of my flat. It means I can access an allotment without the responsibility of having my own one! And I can do it - with a bit of luck - with people who might have half a clue what they are doing!Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55
