Oh, I popped in to say congratulations and got distracted by the lodgers.
I bet you are feeling great, they are falling like dominoes now. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
As for poor Butti...... it is your house, I would be serving notice. Are there really rules for when you can serve. I thought that was the beauty of lodgers is that you can get rid when you want to.
I was thinking about getting one, maybe not!
Lodgers really don't have many rights, you just have to give them a 'reasonable' period of notice.
She has put the little TV in her room and managed to get it to work - credit where its due.
But she is going back home in September to be a lecturer and this mornings lecture was on how electric cookers are better than gas and how I should rinse my plates after washing them. She then told me she wasn't criticising - I beg to differ. It's not what I need over my cornflakes!

I've already diagnosed her Butti
.
Don't know about England but in Scotland lodgers have common law rights, and it depends whether/what you have said on an occupancy agreement. Mine said rolling month to month so that's all I had to give. Though after reading the Shelter website, I knew 40 days would have me well and truly covered, for example, if he doesn't leave on the 31st, I would need to get a court order but this would automatically be granted because he is a lodger and has had the appropriate period of notice given in writing. He'd also be liable for any costs incurred.
If it ever is something you consider in future MrsMoo, devour that website, it gives loads of good info. To be fair to my lodger, it worked very well for a long time. My patience went out of the window the moment I wanted my space back and I could see light at the end of the debt tunnel - and because he never goes out! I wouldn't rule it out if future, I would just be more careful about who moved in and what their interests are.
Says she. My friend is likely to need somewhere to stay come August/September as she finishes her course and begins searching for a job. I won't see her without somewhere to stay, but we might not choose to live together. (She is the friend I go away with a lot even though we both know we are not best matched as holiday buddies. She likes soaking up the sun, I can't stay still; she is carnivorous and I am not; she drinks wine and a lot of it, I prefer a bottle of lager or two; she cycles, I walk... but we both make a good cup of tea! :rotfl:)
Right, better get ready for Kundalini yoga! I will be chanting in about an hour or so.Butti, give it a go so....hum.... It's meant to be good for [STRIKE]stopping rants[/STRIKE] reducing stress. I'll let you know if it works! It's only my second class so it's maybe not kicked in yet...

Grrrr. Just called NRAM, thinking they are open until 12.30 on a Saturday. No, it appears their working hours are Monday-Friday only. This is getting ridiculous! Pah. I just want that paid off now! The money is stting there and is hopefully enough to clear it. Mind you, at this rate April's direct debit will have come off and it definitely will!
I was also planning on asking how much I was allowed to overpay on the mortgage as I still pay what my fixed rate was when I came off it three years ago. If I up that payment by about £60 a month, I'll be overpaying by almost £200 per month, which should mean I don't need to panic if the SVR goes up or because I can't move my mortgage elsewhere (I find it quite amusing just how many people have an opinion as to how much my flat is worth and what that means mortgage-wise. I have no idea and I live in it. The houses in my area are all very different and range from housing association to home owners so you'd be hard pushed to make an educated guess unless you work in the industry and know the area well, I reckon. I suspect the value has gone down, not necessarily to scary levels but just as a result of buying my house in 2007)
Anyway, so I still can't score NRAM of the list. Or find out if I have any money left over to [STRIKE]go on holiday[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]buy veggie make-up[/STRIKE], start saving for the next debt to be struck off the list: Others - £1000 to a friend.
It'll take longer as, I don't know whether I've mentioned this yet, but two weeks today, I'll no longer have a lodger! :j £250 less in the bank. Sanity = pricelss!
(Still figuring out where to start on that list of things I want to do! I guess I should start with inviting my parents up to stay. No, no, no, don't go think "aw, isn't that nice." Dad is a joiner. Obviously I have an ulterior motive. As well he knows; he hates visiting. Mum and I head out shopping and he and the doglets are left with a list of jobs (because of course, my parents are not allowed to visit sans doglets! Though old doglet hates my floors as he's scared of laminate
)
I feel as though I am putting everything on hold until lodger moves out. No wonder the time is dragging! I am also increasingly umcomfortable that I haven't told him I am not moving. We are no longer in "neglecting to mention anything" territory and heading straight for out and out lies! I feel this at work too as many people don't know about the job so I keep having to catch myself when they ask about the lodger.
Fair to say I could never be entangled in a web of deceit as I'd trip myself up immediately and fall head long into some kind of death lock tangle.
Having said that, I'm not willing to tell a lodger who ofen shouts and swears and hits things in his room, when i still have two weeks to live with him.
Right, off to have a nosey at my bank accounts, grab some food and head off out into the [cold] sunshine...Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Ok, so I opened the window wide and let the sunshine come to me so I could watch the rugby.
Lodger has not signed his lease as he was suppoesed to do on Friday. He is furious with them because they did not get in touch with him or return his call and has sent them a "p*ssy email", which I'm sure will help! His holding deposit runs out on Tuesday. I, obviously, advised he doesn't wait for them to call and heads in on Monday with a breezy "I'm here to sign the lease"... Though he has boxes in his room...
My friend has just handed in her notice. We were chatting last night and I knew what she was going to say before she finished her sentences (which is somewhat because we have been friends for a long time); it's where I was a few weeks ago. Only she has perhaps been much braver than I. Especially as she has two children.
However, she has no debt and is entitled to benefits which I would not be. I'm very proud of her for doing it and I hope it is not long before I am in a position to do the same thing!

The sun has got his hat on, hip hip hip hooray, my oh my, what a wonderful day.... :j
It's the comdey festival in Glasgow and last night I was giggling away and today it is sunny. What more could you want?
I still haven't got around to calling the mortgage company. We are having to do an activity audit thingy-bob at work - we have to record what we have done for every 15 minutes of the day (which really takes the fun out of thinking you can do anything for 15 minutes!). And there's just not a slot for on hold to the mortgage company in work time because there's no other time you can call!!!
Which has led me to using rated people today, asking for a quote on skimming over the artex on the hall ceiling. Since upstairs leaked on me, it has a lovely yellow tinge which really brings it to life. And the last thing any-one should have to deal with is real, live artex!
Well seen I will no longer have a lodger in 8 days. Yes, 8 whole days and I will be free. :j :j:j (For the vigilant and observant of you; yes, that is one more day than it ought to be. But lodger has come out of room long enough to ask if he could move on Sunday as his Dad can help him then.)
So I have started the ball rolling on my list of things I want done to the flat! Here's hoping I come into a lot of money soon!
Hmmm, so despite my obsession with TED talks today, and despite loving the less is more talk, I'm not quite there yet... though that's not to say I won't streamline things as I go along!
There's always more that can be decluttered!I'm dying to be let lose on my Dad garage, my parents loft and the massive cupboards full of stuff they don't know is there! Maybe that should be my new business rather than what I currently do. I'll just pop over to yours and ruthlessly throw out three-quarters of your life... and I'll do for a good price...
Oh, some-one from rated people just called. I'll be getting that quote tonight!

Uhm, yeah. So I am getting my entire hall and ceiling plastered on Friday. And he will take away the skirting and facings so those internal doors I've been meaning to renew in the last 4 years will be ready to go whenever I am.
I can also get rid of the monstous light fitting and find something much more to my taste!
If I had money, I'd be dangerous!
(You can just hear the conversation... so i'll just head to Dubai, and when I come home I'd like for the interior of my flat to look just like this...)Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

One week to go. He's curretly sitting in the bay window, window wide open, reading in the sun. And all I can think is, get out, I want to sit there doing that but on a comfier chair.
I'm going to get a new plant pot and light fitting instead in the small window of time I have whilst a certain small football game takes place. The last thing I want to be doing is sitting in traffic in the sun thinking of my bay window. :-)
